Casting About: Things Look Rosey for Sigourney
Sigourney Weaver — who has stripped down to her skivvies in films such as Alien and Ghostbusters, to name but two — has been tapped to play famed burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee in an HBO biopic, Variety reports. Gypsy and Me, to shoot by year's end, will be based on My G-String Mother, a memoir written by the performer's son, Erik Lee Preminger, who by age 12 was serving as her stage manager.... Desperate Housewives' Andrea Bowen will play a popular high-school honor student who contracts HIV in Consequences, a TV-movie for — all together now — Lifetime. Jennie Garth costars as a teacher who becomes Bowen's confidante.

Is it Gypsy Rose Lee - The Retirement Years? Sigourney Weaver was awesome 20 years ago and would have been perfect, but now? Not so much.

Sigourney Weaver would be excellent in this! I remember reading Preminger's memoir in the mid-80's (in hardcover, when it was called "Gypsy & Me" - maybe they slapped the lurid "My G-String Mother" title on the paperback?) and it was fascinating. It focused primarily on Gypsy's later life (her rise to fame having already been covered so well, if not totally accurately, in the musical "Gypsy"), so assuming they are following that model, Sigourney would definitely be better for it now than she was 20 years ago.
