Peter O'Toole, a recent Oscar nominee for his work in Venus, will play Pope Paul III and thus square off against Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Henry VIII in a VII-episode arc on Showtime's The Tudors next season.

Also per Variety, recent Criminal Minds baddie Keith Carradine is joining Showtime's Dexter as a series regular this coming season, playing an FBI agent snooping into a string of murders at the hands of Dex, and also serving as a love interest for Dex's loser of a sister.

Wow Matt, your words or theirs? Otherwise I'm excited for the new season.

I hope Keith Carradine's character doesn't turned out to be a killer like Deb's previous boyfriend was. I can't wait for Dexter to come back. The Tudor I never got into because English historical show like that should be on PBS or BBC America or something.

Tudors is more soap opera than history and with tons of flesh to boot... Certainly not the territory of PBS or BBC America.... It's been a great fit for Showtime and another reason why I'm happy to have it as a choice... With the passing of Sopranos this week, Showtime is the place to be for series dramas on premium TV.. All the showtime series have been great... even the underwatched Sleeper Cell... With the way Showtime delivers their shows on multiple nights and ON Demand, I don't see how ratings matter anyway... Can't wait for POT next season....

The Tudors is definitely on the right channel (not PBS). History is not the point. The show is about the characters and the drama, with plenty of gratuitous sex thrown in (the man did have 8 wives after all).

Dexter is one of the best shows ever on TV. The Keith Carradine character sound like it will be based on the FBI agent in the second Dexter book (Dearly Devoted Dexter). Excellent! Season 1 took the major story arc of book 1 (Darkly Dreaming Dexter) and really ran with it in wonderful ways for the tv series, so hopefully that will continue with season 2. Very good news.

I just hope they don't do this every season of Dexter. There are only so many "man who is after Dexter but dating Deb" plot lines that I can take before I throw in the towel.
