Ugh, when will the SNL producers realize that athletes make TERRIBLE hosts?? Remember how awful Wayne Gretzky was? Michael Jordan and Tom Brady might be charismatic, but that does not necessarily translate to sketch comedy (and it didn't, in either case). Peyton Manning is pretty funny in those MasterCard commercials, but after how many takes? This is live TV.

Double post, so I'll add that I'm excited to see Carrie Underwood perform on the same show. I'll have to deal with what is sure to be a dreadful show in the meantime. (In Peyton's defense, it's been pretty dreadful this entire season, save for Justin Timberlake's hilarious turn.)

I think Peyton will do great. And he's the only reason I'm even gonna stay up late to watch snl.

Come on, Michael Jordan was pretty funny in spite of himself.
As for Peyton Manning, he may actually be the most comedically talented athlete they've had on yet. Have you seen any of his commercials? Sure he can't act, but he's still pretty funny!

Yes, I've seen his commercials. I already said I thought he was pretty funny in them, but again, after how many takes? Splicing together a 30 second commercial is a lot different than doing live sketch comedy. I'll reserve judgement until I see it, but history has proven that athletes do not make good guest hosts. I will say that of the ones I've seen, Derek Jeter was relatively decent, and I hate the Yankees with a passion. I liked the "Derek Jeter Sucks/No, I Don't" segment with Seth Meyers on "Weekend Update."

ITA on Derek Jeter - couldn't be more anti-Yankees, but it had its funny parts.
With Peyton though, well, maybe it's just me, but all I have to do is hear his accent when he talks and I crack a smile. If they play up the Southern thing I think they could have a hit (and I don't mean that as a dig against Southerners, I love the South!)
The other thing is I think he's smarter than most other athletes they've had on the show, so I think he's more likely to learn quickly and pick up the do's and don'ts of live TV. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.
