Canterbury's Verdict Is In! And Jezebel's Out?
Canterbury's Law by Eric Liebowitz/Fox
Looks like the verdict is in on Canterbury's Law. Sources confirm to TVGuide.com that after two low-rated outings on Monday night, Fox is banishing the Julianna Margulies-led courtroom drama to Friday nights, beginning March 28. The show's already seen the last of its unhappy Mondays.
It's unclear what this means for Fox's The Return of Jezebel James, which last Friday tanked in its double-header debut.

As much as I had high hopes for both shows, I do not blame Fox for making these moves.
I found Margulies' character was a cold fish until she interracted with her husband (Aidan Quinn), but their relationship was destined to be in the background on the show.
As for Jezebel, I am still stunned that Amy could misfire so badly with this show. There was virtually nothing on the first two episodes that made me want to return (except for the potential that she could turn things around). How could someone who gave us Lorelei and Rory and all of those other wonderful characters on Gilmore Girls give us just another bland sitcom!?!?
In my humble opinion, Fox is doing what needs to be done to wipe these shows from our memory. Now if only they'd steal Victor Garber back from Eli Stone and bring Justice back (I still can't believe they yanked that promising show)!

I liked Jezebel James, and Julianna's show has potential. Networks don't give shows nowadays a fair shot.

They're probably especially not getting a fair shot now that the normal shows are coming back post-strike.

I actually like Canterbury and think it is one of those shows that can develop into a winner if just given a little time to find itself.
I wonder if Fox should have made this a series for FX and let Margulies' character be even more hard core?

They should follow the leads set up ABC with Millionaire and NBC with Deal or No Deal and cancel both and run Moment of Truth thrice weekly. There are still so mnay marriages and lives yet to be ruined and once a week isn't nearly enough time.

This is good news for New Amsterdam. Now it will have House reruns as a lead-in, which should help its ratings.

buffy - they could make sure the kids are in the audience on the third night. That way 2 generations can be humiliated and degraded at once!!! And then they should pull a random audience member up for an impromptu lie detector test! The depraved viewers deserve it!

They don't give shows the chance to scoop up audiences anymore. If they don't score in the first few weeks they get treatment like this or get the hook altogether. It's too bad.

I think the problem with "Jezebel James" is that the two episodes that have aired so far probably looked great on paper--but Parker Posey, as seen in this show, obviously can't perform comedy to save her life. Her timing, inflections, body language, etc. just seemed forced as if she was trying SO hard to be funny. I don't even remember the name of the actress playing her sister, but she was no better. Way too many shrill, screechy scenes of the two of them yelling at each other. Who would have thought that Diane Wiest (sp?) would be the funniest performer on the show? I think I'd have more fun just reading the "Jezebel James" scripts than watching them performed by the leads.

The saddest part of these shows tanking is that they are both produced in New York.
With Cashmere Mafia, Jezebel James, Canterbury's Law, Lipstick Jungle, and New Amsterdam failing to bring in audiences it means a high level of vacant local studio space and unemployment.
Only Gossip Girl looks like a keeper, and that is only because a hit on the CW is measured very differently.
Long live DIck Wolf's L&O franchise.

Mackattack, pulling out audience members wouldn't work, as I have no doubt The Moment of Truth screens potential contestants to make sure they have juicy secrets. If they pulled random audience members they might end up with someone who doesn't lie, cheat, steal, or have any juicy secrets.

Interesting. Perhaps it will do better Friday, with less competition. I wonder if Fox are going to schedule either Bones or House Mondays at 8 as a lead-in for New Amsterdam, as NA has a great potential and is actually showing some growth (demo- wise). I think NA is one of the top best new shows this year and deserves the chance to shine, despite the tough night.

Your right, I never realized that all the shows made in New York are tanking except Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl may not be getting great ratings on CW but is definitely VERY BIG in NYC (I can't say that for any of the others shows). Out of all the shows, Gossip Girl definitely shows NYC in the best light. That show could work for tourism for NYC, it just makes you want to go to NYC immediately!

Both of these shows were horrible, I tried to watch, but I just couldn't and that drama was the worst. I at least was able to watch the other for 3 whole minutes.
