Jack and Morgan's The Bucket List, earning $19.5 million in its debut, topped the weekend box office, edging out First Sunday (which opened with $19 mil). Juno came in third with $14 mil, and is now on pace to unseat Sideways as Fox Searchlight’s best-grossing film ever.

Among other new releases, The Pirates That Don’t Do Anything: A Veggietales Movie placed ninth with $4.4 mil, while In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege VeggieTale was No. 14 with $3.3 mil.

Matt,

I'm wondering how 27 Dresses did considering this was the original debut weekend for the movie? I went to a special 2:27 showing yesterday and there were only 2 seats left for purchase.

HotMama, 27 Dresses doesn't open "wide" until this coming Friday, so it's not included in this week's list. I was curious about that myself. :)

I would normally like to see Morgan Freeman in just about anything, but I can't tolerate Jack Nicholson in anything. When will Hollywood get over its fascination with this one-note actor (whose one note, by the way, is just playing himself).

I don't know if I'm more shocked that these two actors would do this pathetic "Grumpy Old Men" knock-off or that that many people went to see it. What's wrong with you America?!

How did The Bucket List take the top spot with no promotion? I've never seen any ads for it on tv or seen it mentioned anywhere. I've never even heard of it.

Gah, Bucket List ads were all over TV and Morgan Freeman did a bunch of talk shows last week (not Jack, though, thankfully). The View talked about it in Hot Topics last week AND today (Joy is thrilled that two "old coots" can draw people into theaters). Thankfully, the review in Entertainment Weekly was not glowing.

To sum up, I saw The frickin' Bucket List everytime I turned around last week! :_|

Perhaps I watch too much TV.

Naaaaahhh!
