Can Britney Spears' Sitcom Stint Save the World?

Britney Spears and Josh Radnor in How I Met Your Mother by Monty Brinton/CBS
Well... sort of. And in a very small way. But it's the thought that counts!

A half-dozen items worn by Britney Spears for her role on this Monday's How I Met Your Mother — a navy Juicy Couture dress, a yellow Nanette Lepore dress and a cream Nanette Lepore cardigan included — will be auctioned off to benefit the environmentally conscious Natural Resources Defense Council.

The auction, sponsored by CBS and 20th Century Fox Television, begins Monday night, just after Spears' episode airs. And no, I don't think it's an oversight that no undergarments seem to be available.

That's nice of CBS and Fox to do something for a good cause. And I guess in a small way, Britney should be thanked, too. At least she didn't steal her wardrobe...this time. ;)

You know, since this will donate funds to a good cause and it seems that everyone is trying to do the right thing. Good for them, it is encouraging to see good publicity for a change.

Okay, PatMc, if that's the way you want to see it. Brit never owned the clothes, so she has nothing to do with it, but I guess if she's in close proximity to a good deed, some people will see her as a humanitarian.

If she stands next to a few more good deeds, maybe even I will forget that she's an impaired driver.

Nah, I doubt it...

Maybe they can auction off "underwear" with an Emperor's New Clothes
kind of slant........;)

I do not believe I said she was a humanitarian. By allowing her name to be used to auction the clothes is probably the only contribution she has made here at all. However, if she is trying to straighten herself out, it would be kinder to cool the pot shots and give her a chance. Unless, you don't believe in doing that. I'v never been a fan of Britney's, but, if someone is making an effort to rebuild themselves, they deserve a chance to do so.

I still don't see any evidance of her doing a gol'darn thing (as Hank Hill would say) to do anything to atone for her many, many sins. These clothes could be auctioned without any approval from her, since she didn't own them. It galls me that they may be trying to make it appear as though SHE'S doing something noble, when SHE'S doing nothing.

Let her sell pictures of the soft part of her baby's skulls (or her OWN soft spot) and then donate THOSE millions to a worthy charity. THAT might be a start.

Gullible public.

Considering CBS and 20th Century Fox Television is behind this, how come there aren't any smirky comments about them? I'm not a big fan of Britney's either, however, I do agree with PatMc in the fact, that Britney bashing, when she hasn't done anything in this particular circumstance is undeserving. And why bring her kids into it? Or, because they are her kids, they deserve it? Trying to show kindness to a troubled person isn't gullible--it's called compassion. Maybe you should get some.

I'm not making smirky comments about CBS or Fox because they are doing the good thing. You're right that Britney's done nothing. That's my point. She shouldn't be getting any credit for this charitible act, when she has nothing to do with it.

Oh, I see--the publicity department releases all this to the media, putting her name out there to attract attention for the show and the cause. Noting, that not anywhere, in any shape or form is she seeking or asking for 'any credit for this charitable act'. Yet somehow, because her name is attached that entitles people like yourself to make snide comments, because, obviously, you are a perfect person. Wow, TVGord, must be nice in your world.

Well, good for you. I'll stay in the real world--less perfect, sanctimonious people around to be judge and jury.

That works great for me. I like living in a world where the bar isn't set so disgracefully low. (By the way, that should be "fewer perfect, sanctimonious people...", not "less").
