Britney: "I'm Having a Blast" with Mother Role

How goes it three days into Britney's stint on How I Met Your Mother, now slated for a March 24 air date? "[It] has been so terrific," Spears shares. "Everyone, including the cast, the crew and the producers, has been so wonderful."

Spears is guest-starring as the assistant to Ted's dermatologist (Sarah Chalke), and as such will find herself crushing on the young architect as well. "Abby is such a fun girl to play," says Brit. "I'm having a blast!"

Ted's portrayer shrugs off any speculation that the headline staple has been a handful in her most unexpected sitcom stop-by. "She's friendly, shows up on time, knows all her lines, nails all of her jokes," says Josh Radnor. "The only thing 'scandalous' about all of this is how non-scandalous it is." — With reporting by Michelle Heller

I think TV Guide is far too obsessed with what Britney does every single day. It'd be a shock if a day or two went by and you didn't report what non-news worthy stuff she did that day.

I was happy when I read that Alicia Silverstone would be on multiple episodes of HIMYM, maybe playing "mother". Then I read that Brit would be on HIMYM, and Alicia would be recast. What a bummer. I really liked HIMYM. I hate to give it up, but anyone that sucks up to Brit is lame in my book.

I thought she had great comedic timing on Will & Grace, and if she nails this role and provides some laughs with the rest of the cast, who cares if it's Britney or an unknown actress?

Hey, at least they are actually posting articles about TV again. If Britney is going to be on TV. I have no problem with articles about her. It's the "What did Britney do today?" articles that annoy me.

I can't necessarily say that I can hate on the producers for pulling this move. I am in no way a fan of Britney Spears, or anything she does for that matter, but it's a smart business move for the show to be saved. It's too great of a program to be canceled, that is if it is continues to be in danger of cancellation, on the bubble, what have you - it's great move to pull in ratings because I think people are going to watch to see if she has regained any semblance of normalcy. I know I'm watching - besides the fact that I love the show.

Thanks, pyeman9, for understanding the primary objective here, LOL. But hey, it wouldn't be a day ending with Y if wildbill wasn't grumbling about something, right?

Zap2it is reporting that the ep is airing 03/24/2008. Can that be right?

I realize that TV Guide loves the ratings challenged "Mother" but this is really too much news. Who really gives a flying fig about Britney guesting on a show that no one watches? It only taints a program that has a number of good actors. Ask Allison Hannigan if this is what is was like working for Joss Whedon? Oh, on Joss's shows it was the STORY that mattered and not stupid guest stars.....

BHM...I hate to disagree with you here but remember John Ritter's little guest role on Buffy? That show had plenty of guest stars who just happened to stick around for more than an episode. Sure, they weren't as over-exposed as Britney Spears but they certainly had acting roles before Buffy. Besides...Sitcoms (even successful ones like FRIENDS and Seinfeld) have always brought in big names to guest on their shows. Reese Witherspoon? Any number of Yankee players on Seinfeld? I think I made my point.

Adam:

Sorry to disagree with your disagreement but John Ritter's casting wasn't a stunt movie! Remember, this was about 5 years before his big comeback on 8 Rules. Comparing his "Q Score" (for lack of a better term) in 1997 to Britney in 2008 is, in a word, ludicrous.

And what do Friends or Seinfeld have to do with bhm's assertions that Joss valued story over stunt casting? Did Joss ever cast particular actors? Absolutely! But they were people with acting abilities that he knew could bring a character to life in a certain way (think about Nathan on Buffy or Gina on Angel).

Why did HIMYM choose Brit? Because she brought them mega-publicity. Period.
