Britney Hospitalized for Emergency Mental Evaluation; "Greatly Disabled"
Britney Spears by John Shearer/ WireImage.com
Having checked in to the UCLA Medical Center's psych ward early Thursday morning, Britney Spears may have been classified as "greatly disabled," a term that can imply involuntary commitment to the hospital, TMZ reports.
Escorted by more than a dozen Los Angeles police officers and a pair of LAPD 'copters, Spears was committed at 1 am Thursday morning, not long after reports surfaced that a psychiatrist declared the beleaguered pop star a danger to herself and others. After being transported by ambulance from her Studio City home to the medical center, Spears was placed on 72-hour emergency "mental evaluation hold" (also known as a 5150) — just as she was on Jan. 3, following that custody-related standoff with police. What brought on this latest intervention? "Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take," a family source tells People. "This is just another sad, sad evening."
Upon arrival at the hospital, an account on TMZ asserts that the star was manic and made a scene for two hours before she could be admitted. Spears' mother, Lynne, traveled to the hospital as part of the police escort. Her father, Jaime, and brother, Bryan, arrived not long after she was admitted.
Late Wednesday night, online rumors suggested that Britney had attempted suicide, but manager Sam Lufti and gal pal Alli Sims have both denied that tale.

Well of course she didn't really attempt suicide. She was merely performing to a suicide background track.

*sigh I don't usually comment on any Britney news, but can TVGuide seriously make a section dedicated to her, Miley Cyrus and whomever else has overstayed their welcome in "Our Take"? It's clogging up the page.

I'm not a fan of Britney's, but I've never understood why people waste their time to go hatin' on someone they supposedly don't care about? What did she ever do to you personally? Did she steal money from you? Turned down a date?

If she was involuntarily committed, I don't see how this will work. She's still in denial.
I get scared for CA drivers when she's behind the wheel. What will it take to get her to admit she needs professional help - her killing an innocent person on the road? Apparently, losing her children hasn't convinced her yet.

What saddens me most is the utter lack of human compasion shown in some of the above comments. Since when is someone's suicide attempt fodder for sick humor? Obviously, this girl has deep emotional and psychological problems. To think that any of that is funny just shows how cold hearted people have become.

Thanks, TV Guide, for yet another exciting, breaking news story about Britney! What would we ever do without you and your razor sharp reporting about no-talent, wacko celebrities?
Oh, hell, just wrap a straitjacket around her and lock her away, so we never have to hear about her again.

oh, well, if Sam and Alli say she didn;t try to commit suicide, then it must be true. After all, they only have her best interest at heart, right? ">

honbun26: I don't know if it's people being cold-hearted as much as it is the public becoming desensitized to Britney's plight. We hear about every single one of her mistakes. It's hard not judge someone who has all this money. And since money supposedly makes people happy, we don't understand why she isn't happy, or at the very least, with all this money, why hasn't she gotten help yet? (I realize that if you don't think you need help, you won't seek it, but all of us are looking outside the box in.)

jbird - then, perhaps its time we got resensitized (is that even a word?). I've always joked that the saying Money doesn't buy you happiness was just pablum that the rich feed the poor to keep them quiet. But its true, as we witness this wreck of a human being. Rich or poor, she is human and deserves some respect as such. Money can buy good medical care but it can't buy health.
Showing my age, but I remember Freddie Prinze from Chico and the Man. He was the first Latino break-out star in the US. It seemed like he had everything - a career on the rise, money, a young wife and a new baby. Then he shot himself and everyone wondered why. Pain is pain and money won't make it go away.
Am I tired of hearing about Brittany? Yes. But that doesn't push me to the point where I would make her the butt of my jokes.

There are people out there who believe that money buys happiness? Seriously?
May Britney get the help she needs, and may others learn that the size of the bank account has nothing to do with psychological issues.

It is sad that people are still wasting their time on this utterly wasted and lost human flesh. I'm not a Mormon but this week a much revered spiritual leader Gordon Hinckley who did actual good in this world passed away. It is sad when good moral religious leaders devoted to making the world a better place passes away, while a deranged woman continues to waste peoples time. If Gordon Hinckley or Pope John Paul were still alive the leaders would counsel Brittanys parents to give up on their daughter and let her wreck her life because she has not earned their love, and they are bad parents for constantly indulging her. It is time for her mother to abandon her and forget her daughter exists because it is abundantly clear she can never be saved.
