Britney: Oops... She'll Do It Again at the Emmys?

According to Us, Fox is "in negotiations" with La Spears to, ahem, perform at Sunday's Emmy Awards. "The idea," says a source, "is to have her come on and apologize for the VMAs. She's weighing the offer." The offer, they said. She's weighing the offer, not herself. (You guys can be, like, so mean.)

Meanwhile, the New York Times is reporting a number of additional reasons why the beautiful disaster tanked so bad at the VMAs. Among them:

1) As soon as she hit Vegas, she all but abandoned her training regimen and instead spent one wild night after another trying to keep up with party animals the likes of Diddy.
2) An hour before showtime, she had a tiff with her hairstylist. (Well, that much was obvious.)
3) At the last minute, she ditched the custom-fitted corset that had been designed to ward off the appearance of a matronly midriff. (Hello, eBay!)

Matt is en route to the Emmys in Los Angeles. Friday's Take was written by Ben Katner.

Britney performing at the Emmys is just what they don't need. I was barely willing to watch it in snippets. I love how everyone is being blamed for Brit's bad performance at the VMAs.

I never watch award shows and this is exactly why - they are no longer about giving talented people their due, but instead it is about what scandal / controversy / publicity stunt can happen to draw more viewers. They don't give a damn about her or helping her career.

Actually, though, why should she apologize? Sure, it was bad, but geez how many rockers have shown up totally blitzed and unable to sing on countless awards shows, late night, etc. I saw Courtney Love on Letterman a few years ago and she was so effed up I couldn't watch - and I'm a fan! What is MTV anyway that she has to apologize - like it is some bastion of quality entertainment or talent. I say screw 'em.

As far as what happened in Vegas that weekend that lead to her botched performance, it doesn't matter - amateurs in community theatre have to deal with much worse and manage to leave it at the dressing room door. Britney has been doing this since she was in Jr. High. She's a professional. There's just no excuse.

OMG Is there a new category called Train Wreck that they have been hiding til opening night????? I would think they would be afraid she'd show up hairless, pantiless, a drink in one hand, a cig in the other, and unable to lip sync her prerecorded apology!

Looks to me like she abandoned her training regimen long before Vegas!

She's obviously not ready for prime time. Give it, and us, a rest Britney.

Britney's going to perform at the Emmy's? That should be ok, long as she's dressed when performing. The Emmy's is an entirley different kind of
audience, that she's used to. When in Pacific Time and on what night, will the Emmy's be in Pacific Time?

What Ms Spears needs to do is get some serious help...from a manager, a stylist, a personal trainer, her Mother & Father, whomever out there can reign her in, show her that she may very well have a 'come back' in her but not gonna happen the way she does things (drinking, smoking, partying all night long).

I cannot imagine what she could say on the Emmy's that wouldn't sound like a rehearsed speech (WAIT! she doesn't rehearse, this might be fun to watch!)

Go for it Brit!

Matt, you left two more possible reasons for her bad performance: (1) She's pregnant (courtesy E!), (2) She popped anti-depressants before she went on stage after seeing her bad hair.
Despite all of her bad behavior insiders say she can still have a successful album IF she pulls herself together. Considering her manager is Kelly Clarkson's former guy (the one who apparently thought it was okay for Kelly to diss Clive Davis) I'm not holding out much hope.
