Box Office: Tyler Perry Dislodges the Rock

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? unseated Dwayne Johnson's The Game Plan! as box-office champ, earning $21.5 million in its opening weekend. After two straight weeks at the top, Game Plan dropped to the No. 2 slot, adding $11.5 mil to its coffers.

Rounding out the weekend's top five were George Clooney's Michael Clayton! ($11.01 mil), Joaquin Phoenix's Do We Own the Night? ($11 mil) and Ben Stiller's The Heartbreak Kid! ($7.4 mil). Cate Blanchett's Elizabeth: Is This the Golden Age? placed sixth in its debut with $6.2 mil.

How much did Across the Universe make this weekend? I saw it twice and it's absolutely brilliant.

adet, I also loved Across the Universe. It was ranked #8 with about $4 million.

Also Lars and the Real Girl (limited release) is also great.

Wow, was Tyler Perry's movie even advertised anywhere? I never saw one ad or trailer for it and as far as I know as of Friday it was even screened for the critics. And obviously none of that was even necessary. Whereas you would have been hard pressed to miss an ad for 'Michael Clayton'. Not that those ads made sense anyway..."DID YOU TELL ANYONE?"..."THEY'LL CUT YOU OFF AT THE KNEES!"..."STOP THAT GUY!". What did any of that mean anyway? Absolutely no sense of what the movie was about.

Why Did I get Married? was fantastic entertainment. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun at a movie.

I read about Lars and the Real Girl and it looks really good! I can't get over Across the Universe though; I'm seeing it for a third time this week and am encouraging everyone I know to see it.

I'm so strapped for cash that I rarely see a movie twice in theatres. Plus we're getting to the "Oscar season" so a lot of movies will be coming out that I want to see.

Having said that I will gladly snatch Across the Universe up when it comes out on DVD. My dad is a Beatles fan and would very much appreciate it.

Oh I am definitely lacking in money, but I received a gift card for the theatre so I am draining that! And not only is the movie itself amazing, but the soundtrack is also wonderful. If released in time, the DVD will definitely be on my Christmas list!
