Comedy TV (and apparently Broadway) lost a gifted actress. Condolences to her family.

I enjoyed seeing her on both Bewitched and Designing Women. I think, if I'm not mistaken, she did the D.W. special a few years ago.
She will be missted.

To answer question posted by "gcapell" - it appears so. Looked her up on inmd.com and found this listing: "Mayberry R.F.D." (1968) TV Series .... Alice (unknown episodes, 1970-1971)

Yes she will be missed and she did appear on the Designing Women Reunion looking frail a few years ago she must have been 78 or so then. A very funny & warm lady.

I think my favorite role of hers was on Designing Women. She is the only one who could have pulled off Bernice, and her relationship with Anthony was classic. We have lost a great talent indeed.

Yes, my favorite character of Alice's is Bernice - the cast of Designing Women was already great before she came but she was a fantastic addition...I love that show! I'm sorry to hear of Alice's passing.

Another notable role of Ms. Ghostley's that hasn't been mentioned here was that of one of the stepsisters in Julie Andrews' Cinderella (the other one being Kaye Ballard) that recently was restored and shown on PBS a couple of years ago and is on DVD. Charming production and unlike other productions of the fairy tale, Ghostely and Ballard and their mother actually have somewhat of a happy ending when they still live with Cinderella in better conditions!

On Mayberry RFD she played Aunt Bea's cousin when Aunt Bea left. She was also Dill's mother in To Kill A Mockingbird and played many uforgettable roles in movies and TV. She was even on Passions.
