Battlestar Galactica roared back into action Friday night, as the Season 4 premiere delivered more than 2.1 million total viewers — a 19 percent increase over the January 2007 bow of Season 3.5. BSG also emerged as cable's No. 1 prime-time program in Sci Fi Channel's key 25-54 demo.

Numbers-wise, Battlestar also proved once and for all its appeal to womenfolk, scoring its best-ever female audience when 606,000 women 18-49 tuned in. — MWM

As a female age 18-49 who loves the show, I just have to say, yay! Even though this is definitely going to be the last season, so I don't have to worry about renewal issues, it is still nice to hear good ratings news. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder if people who don't watch the show cringe upon hearing the word "frak" everywhere, as I do when I hear someone say "Mc(something)y"? (as in "McDreamy" McSteamy" "McCreamy" or whatever that is)

By the way, for the ladies (as I know we are in mixed company) I am sorry for the foul language. I'm just so frakkin' happy BSG is FINALLY back!!

Here's why this woman in the demographic loves this show:

The story is intense, topical and beautifully written; the characters are both fully-realized and completely engrossing; the drama puts me on the edge of my seat; and as the icing on the cake, there is so much pretty to look at, it just blows my mind.

Frak is a bit on the annoying side but what turns me off as a potential new viewer are the commercials claiming that this is the best show in TV history. Blah Blah Blah. They oughta know that approaching people by basically kicking their favorite shows off the pedestal (in my case The X-Files) is only going to make me scoff at the claim and then not tune in. I don't think I ever heard Chris Carter yap about being the best show around even when he most definitely was breaking ground. Furthermore, they oughta know that sci-fi fans are an odd bunch. Buffy, Star Trek, X-Files. Even suggest to these fans that a show is better than their favorite and it's over. So 2.1 million viewers isn't likely to rise

Eh. I'm a Buffy fan through and through (i.e. I think BtVS IS the greatest TV show in history), but I remain unfazed by BSG's ads that proclaim itself as the best. Are people really this sensitive? I mean it's an ad for pete's sake. Imagine TV shows promoting themselves with "It's a relatively good show considering" or "Not the best show in history, but still pretty good!" Yeah, not so much.

Then again maybe it helps a little that the creator of BtVS, Joss Whedon, is a proclaimed BSG fan and loves it more than I do!

Anyways, great news about the ratings! But like someone already said since this is the last season, I don't have to worry about the ratings and just focus on the awesomeness that will be this season (also how I am approaching Lost's last few seasons since they have an end date as well).

So say we all.

I am and will always be an X-File fan and Mulder and Scully will always be number one on my list. But in their absence, I am just glad that Apollo and Starbuck are around. When our favorite shows are gone, we just have to move on and find some other show to replace it. When they put out ads that say "best new show in TV history", it gives viewers like me some kind of hope that maybe, just maybe, this new show can substitute for my favorite show. Besides, I don't think that these ads are claims by the station. They are mostly quotes from famous TV critics or writers or the like. At least in the case of BSG, the ads are true unlike for the other dumb TV shows.

When LOST and BSG end, I just hope I find some new show worth watching.

I'm not in the key demo since I am a 62 year old female, but this is one of my favorite shows. I will hate to see it end.

Topoopon:

I've never watched BSG, and I find myself saying "frakking." (I blame it on Michael Ausiello's frequent use of the word. ;))

Well, I AM a fan of the show, but yeah, the "frak" thing outside of show-related blogs, etc., is getting pretty tired. But given a choice, I'll take "frak" over the McWhoozits. And I'll say it every frakin' day in exchange for NEVER hearing another blended/shipper name again. Grey's "Gizzie" being the ABSOLUTE WORST EVER. How do you even pronounce that? If it's 'g' as in 'girl' it reminds me of something you pull out of a chicken carcass. And if it's 'g' as in 'George'... well, that's a whole different kind of ick!
