NBC and Law & Order executive producer Dick Wolf announced on Tuesday that British thesp Linus Roache (Kidnapped, Thomas Wayne in Batman Begins) will join the long-running procedural this season in the capacity of executive assistant district attorney — the office formerly held by Sam Waterston's Jack McCoy, who is now the full-on DA.

"I've known Linus' work for several years. He is an actor who totally gets inside his roles," Wolf says in a statement. "I think he and Sam are going to raise the bar and add intellect and passion in the back half of the show."

YAY. I may have to watch the mothership again because of Linus Roache. He was great in BB.

I loved Linus Roache in Priest, and I think he will add a lot to L&O.

Will he actually be British on the show or just fake an American accent?

He's ok. I watched Kidnapped and he was pretty good. His role in Batman was very brief. I am still sad they didn't cast Bradley Whitford though

How great for Sam Waterston to now be playing the DA. A natural progression after so many years as basically second in command, so-to-speak.

I have to admit I'm disappointed. I was hoping for Stephanie March or Bebe Neuwirth, both former ADA's on other Law & Orders, or for Michael Imperioli as Nick Falco, who has graduated from law school (he had been taking night classes when he did his stint on L&O). I'm sure he'll be fine, but I had other hopes.

Funny thing. The other night, I was watching a rerun on TNT. The last line of the episode, delivered by the Fred Thompson character, was "Jack, you'll never be the district attorney." Quite funny considering what's happened now!

I wish they'd get rid of the female ADA and the female cop (Not the Lieutenant). They are really awful.
