Barney Miller Star Dead at 71

And no, it is not Abe Vigoda, as Raven Snook pointed out in passing this along. As reported by the New York Times:

"Ron Carey, the pint-sized, round-faced comic best known as the unjustifiably cocky police officer Carl Levitt on the long-running television situation comedy Barney Miller, died [of a stroke] Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was 71."

Aww, I loved Levitt. Represented for the little guy so well. Then again, I loved everything about Barney Miller. Terrific show.

:( I also loved Barney Miller. It was a great, great show. And being 5'6" or so, I could identify with Levitt's plight.

My favorite episode of Barney Miller was the one that introduced Officer Levitt. Wojo's girlfriend sent him to work with a batch of brownies that had hash baked into them, and all of the detectives got stoned! It was a great way to showcase Ron Carey's talent, since he and Barney were the only ones who hadn't indulged in the "baked" goods! LOL! I'm sorry to hear he's gone.

I remember the hash brownies episode vividly. Wasn't there a word or something that Wojo kept saying over and over again?

OMG, thats my absolute favorite episode of BM ever. The one who used to totally crack me up consistantly was Jack Soo / Detective Yamana (sp?). I remember him giggling, answering the telephone in that episode and saying, "Mooshi mooshi" (SP? again). OMG, I was rolling on the floor crying! Matt, maybe that is the character who kept repeating things that you may be recalling?

I've had the fortunate experience to have been able to catch many, many episodes of BM on Comcast OnDemand last year. I was in my teen years when they aired back in the '70's, and it was my favorite show back then. Seeing the episodes again now as an adult was just like watching them again for the first time. This year, I'm having the same experience with watching old episodes of "Soap". The show cracked me up then, and it cracks me up even more now. And how fun seeing a young Billy Crystal and Ted Wass again. But I digress...

Speaking of soaps and getting back to BM, did anyone here catch Hal Linden on the Bold & the Beautiful this month? I don't watch B&B so I missed seeing him. How was he?

Hee hee! I also loved Yemana saying, "Anybody seen my legs? (Spreads arms) 'bout this long. They've got ten toes. One of 'em's busted. (Curls index finger) Kinda looks like this!" Hahahahaha!

And in honor of Ron Carey, when he was explaining that his parents were also short: "4-foot-9 and 5-foot-1. Dad liked tall women!" :^O

:( Bye, li'l Levitt.

How sad. He was a funny, funny guy.

Barney Miller was a great show (and Soap, which someone else mentioned, was one of my all-time favorites).

And to answer Rachel1663's question, Hal Linden did pretty well on The Bold and the Beautiful. His role was fairly brief (half dozen episodes or so). He had a couple of good scenes with Susan Flannery (Stephanie) and Lesley Anne Down (Jackie).

I own the first season on DVD, but I have never seen the rest for sale. I wish they'd hurry up and put the all out.
