It's Off: Barbara Won't Spar with Star
Barbara Walters by Jim Spellman/WireImage.com and Star Jones by Jesse Grant/WireImage.com
Barbara Walters is declining to publicly engage with Star Jones after things heated up this week between the two. On Friday, Walters said she'd rather hang on to the good memories of her and Jones' days together on The View. "Star is going through a very difficult time right now," Walters told AP Radio, alluding to the dissolution of Jones' marriage. "I don't want to add to her difficulties." Oops, too late!
Earlier this week, during an Oprah visit, Walters revealed that she and fellow View hosts lied for Jones about her significant weight loss. Jones in turns responded, "It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters... is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer... and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book."
Walters claimed good intentions in detailing her affair with a senator, saying, "I put it in to show in great part how race relations have changed. This was 30 years ago, it was an African-American prominent man. And it would've destroyed his career, and mine. Today it would have almost no impact."
Is Walters taking the high road, or folding in a fracas that she instigated? — Anna Dimond

I am torn in both directions here. There is no doubt BW sold her soul to sell books.I bet it is an interesting read.On the other hand, Star got so out of control while still on the view and high profile.Once Star went that road, or any road, she knew facts about her personal life would get out.I wouldn't want either one of them for a friend.BW broke down barriers but she certainly wants the credit whether she denies it or not. Like I said it is probably a good read.Lesson to all in high profile positions, don't do anything if you do not want it to come out in public either now or 30 years from now.

Walters defended her revelations about her affair, however, asserting that she has good intentions: "I put it in to show in great part how race relations have changed," she said. "This was 30 years ago, it was an African-American prominent man. And it would've destroyed his career, and mine. Today it would have almost no impact."
I don't buy it. Let's just say for the sake of argument that Barack Obama were not running for president this year, and it came out that Walters (who, for argument's, sake is 30 yrs younger) were either currently or had in the past had an affair with him. She thinks this would have almost no impact on either career? What universe is she living in?
This is the kind of anecdote you put in a book to be published upon your death. And she was just baiting Jones. She knew perfectly well that the woman lives for controversial attention. Hell, they both do.

I hate Star Jones. I have always thought she was a pompous moron that had no business giving her opinion on anything.
In the past week, I have realized just how pathetic Barbara Walters is too. Every time I turn on the TV, there she is whiling about something that's in her book.
Basically, I say, let's drop them in a cage and let them fight. That would be more entertaining to watch than listen to them speak!

Where I come from if some one bad mouths you, your momma, or anyone else in your family we play the dirty dozens and Star Jones had every right to defend herself... you morons who keep talking about how you don't like her because of this or that, it is not the point. Barbara Walters in her quest to sell books started this mess by bringing up the past when she should have left it alone... Now she is saying she will not dignify Star Jones's comment with a response how could she when this all began with her running her old decrepid mouth on Oprah. What Star said to her was the truth... Barbara Walters is in the twilight of her life and she just needs to book a room at Shady Pines retirement village and call it a day...

thankulord13, it's pretty classless to call people morons simply because you disagree with them. It's all about point of view. You think Barbara started it all, but others think it all started with Star's disgraceful behavior on The View.
The main reason I decided to comment, though, is I wonder how you expect Barbara to write a book about her life without bringing up the past.
As for Star, she should be used to hearing that someone won't dignify something with a response. She said it enough herself when she was asked about her weight-loss, whether her husband was gay or about her "hit" CourtTV show!

Barbara taking the high road? "I don't want to add to her difficulties." ZING!!!! Point Barbara. As far as a room at Shady Pines? No need as long as someone can teach her the "miracle fountain of youth" know as Pilates!

But she does look good for her age though.
But anyway, Im glad that Babs isn't going to comment on Star's stupdity. She is taking the high road on this. You're right TV Gord, Babs didn't utter one word about Star's recent personal blunders. I personally think that after she lost the weight, she gained right back to her head. That wedding was a mess.....who ever heard of 4 ministers officiating at a wedding? Idiotic.

I think it was a little more tactful, but I have to disagree with you guys that Babs didn't utter one word about Star's recent personal blunders.
"I don't want to add to her difficulties." i.e. Your life is already a MESS!!!!!!!! In context, can you really take that any other way?

You make a good point, Mr. Furley, but if she wanted to get down into the muck, she could have written about whether the ladies of The View had any speculation on all the talk about Al. Imagine how much fun that would be!
As for Barbara, I don't think she needs any lessons on how to do Pilates. She learned it directly from the original workout guru, Pontius Pilates!

Barbara irritates the ish out of me. She needs to sit her butt down somewhere and shut up. Star has her own issues, but she was right to make a statement about Walter's comment. Barbara just feels stupid because she realizes that she didn't do herself any favors by making the obvious comment.

Don't get me wrong-I'm not criticizing Barbara-I loved it-almost as good as if she patted lil' Star on the head and said "the poor thing just doesn't know any better...." (BTW-I'm not really taking sides-I just get a kick out of bickering celebrities)

Oh, it would've been perfect if Barbara had fired back one of Star's own patented "Well, bless her heart"s!

Star Jones needs to find a real job, and stop attempting to make a celebrity out of herself; very soon Ms. Jones will be famous for nothing but making a complete spectacle out of her life. Maybe Star could pose for Playboy and become the next Anna Nichole Smith. Or making a pass at President Obama...it is just very sad and pathetic; when this woman contacted Entertainment Tonight in order to announce her divorce, it was just pathetic; she asked for “privacy,” but felt it necessary to respond to Barbara Walter’s book? Why at such a supposedly difficult time in her life does Star want to get involved in a public free-for-all?
Barbara Walters is in the Twilight of her career; it was the perfect time for her to release a book with all the juicy details. A few years after she retires, people might not care. Unlike Star, Barbara has worked very hard for many years; she interviewed so many political leaders, and Hollywood Superstars. She was a trailblazer for woman in the workplace. Then based on the initial sales numbers of her book, Barbara is someone with something to say, that people want to read about. Barbara always seems so perfect on The View, but went through the same drama that so many ordinary woman go through when wanting a baby, but suffers one miscarriage after another; that is not some sort of extraordinary extramarital affair, but just an ordinary human suffering that most woman can relate to -- then she also made it made the controversial indiscretions public (like her relationship with the married Senator). An honest cronical of her life; the stuff about Barbara’s sister and father was also interesting, and wonderfully honest.
If you do not like Barbara Walters, then change the channel, but if you dislike Star Jones, please send her hate mail...Long live Barbara, and hopefully Ms. Jones star will soon fade away...

...very soon Ms. Jones will be famous for nothing but making a complete spectacle out of her life.
That tactic certainly seems to work for Paris Hilton, et. al.; I don't see why it wouldn't work for Star.
