Out of Office: Amy Poehler Gets Other NBC Sitcom

Remember that Office spin-off that Amy Poehler was rumored to be circling? Well, it's not dead yet, but Poehler won’t be on it, as she has nabbed another NBC show.

NBC Entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman announced Monday that they've locked in Poehler to a sitcom commitment to be produced by Office vets Greg Daniels and Mike Schur. It's unclear what the Poehler show is about. When pressed for details about a premise or setting, Silverman only said: "It's going to be... funny."

The timeline for when this new show might air was also unclear. Lorne Michaels said at Sunday's Saturday Night Live panel that the currently pregnant Poehler would appear on the show until she gave birth — some time after the election hopefully, he joked. Factoring in maternity leave, and assuming she's not returning to SNL afterward, it's hard to imagine the Poehler show beginning much before fall 2009.

But when it finally does, Silverman claims that the new show will work very well stylistically with their Thursday-night comedy block, which includes My Name Is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock, and the new Molly Shannon-Selma Blair sitcom remake Kath & Kim. Silverman also said that Poehler, Daniels and Schur would have more announcements about the show shortly. — Mickey O'Connor

So is Amy leaving SNL, or is she going to do both? Did she already announce that she was leaving and I missed it? I hadn't heard anything for sure.

Wow, that Ben Silverman sure has a way with words, doesn't he?

I'm glad Amy won't be on the Office spinoff because I just have a feeling it's gonna tank. It's going to be soooo scrutinized and most Office fans will find that it pales in comparison. I love Amy Poehler and look forward to whatever she'll do.

And I read that she'll be on SNL this season (at least most of it) but this will be her last.

So that is Selma Blair. I thought it looked like her at first when the promos started airing, but later, I started thinking it was just someone with a slight resemblance....

I thought that "The Office" spinoff was dead and this Amy Poehler show was going to take its place?

I probably watch NBC more than any of the other broadcast networks - during the regular season. A sign of how little NBC has given me to watch during the summer? I haven't seen a single promo for Kath and Kim and didn't even know it was scheduled for the coming season.

I hope she managed to kick her coke habit when she found out she was pregnant.

I would love to have been in the room when they discussed announcing an Office spin-off before even having a premise for it. I imagine it going like this.

NBC Exec #1: Hey, you know what would be awesome? - An Office spin-off.

Ben Silverman: Yes! I'll announce it right away!

NBC Exec #2: But sir, we don't even have -

Silverman: Silence! If I don't make the irrational descisions around here, like cancelling Journeyman, then who will?

NBC Exec #2: Indeed.
