American Idols Dominate CMT Nominations

Not only is Carrie Underwood up for three statues at this year's CMT Music Awards (to be held Apr. 16), but underdog Kellie Pickler has scored a nod for Breakthrough Video. (Take that, Simon!) Besides Underwood, competitors in multiple categories include Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and the Dixie Chicks — who will be contenders for the first time in four years. If that doesn't tell el presidente how low his approval rating has gotten, nothing will!

i bet the Chicks won't be at those awards shows. CMT completely dropped them in 2003 and now, after 5 grammys they wanna make it right? WAY TOO LATE!

I hope they do show up and are sweet as anything. That's the best way to say "I told you so " neener neener!!!

Man, I don't get all the stuff about the media slanting left... To quote Ralph Wiggum, that's unpossible! Just because none of the TV Guide columinists can miss a chance to snark about something political always with a decidedly anti-Republican bent... that doesn't mean anything.

Amen, Xyn! Let's see if the Chicks can fill an auditorium somewhere other than Canada on their next tour and then we'll talk about payback, retribution, and being "right."

Thank you, Xyn, for taking the words right off my fingertips. I'm so annoyed with TVGuide for constantly mentioning politics with the Chicks. So they won grammy's, good for them. They were not nominated for any People's Choice awards, which is indicative that many people (not the biased liberal media and entertainment world) do not hold them in the such high regard.

I really don't think the people's choice awards can be compared to grammys. I mean, the only way to vote for them is online, and really, who makes the nominations anyway? When I saw the ballots, there were TONS of good artists, shows, etc missing and most of the categories only had 3 nominations anyway.

And who cares if the Chicks sell out giant arenas. The tour was still one of the most successful tours last year.

In 2004, they dropped Gallup and switched to a partnership with Entertainment Weekly magazine. Now, nominees are determined by a "front row panel of over 6,000 entertainment enthusiasts" recruited by EW editors. The panel votes on the various categories, then people vote via the Internet for the winners.

Just to answer your question. And that is exactly my point, PEOPLE (not media) vote.

well, it's a VERY small group of people. the majority of america doesn't get online to vote for stuff.

I still find it embarrassing that the Dixie Chicks are from my home state. That said, I didn't like them before they started yapping.

Take that, Simon!)

I don't get these types of comments. I mean all Simon did was create and produce a show that allowed Pick Pickler to be seen and heard by the public.

If not for Simon and AI, she'd still be waiting on cars back home.

Worth mentioning -- the Grammys, just the like the Oscars (Al Gore, anyone?) is really just another venue for the left-leaning entertainment industry to puff themselves up and push their agenda forward . So, the Chicks were nominated and won several Grammys this year. Look at who was nominating and voting! It would have been surprising had they not won. Award shows are one of Hollywood's infantile ways to try and poke their opponents in the eye. Grammys, Oscars, Golden Globes, etc. -- those are monopolized venues where the message is controlled by a very specific group of people with a very specific ideological bent. And as to the Chicks' tour -- it may have been successful in the context of the year, but there's no disputing it was a debacle compared to their past performance drawing power.

Right, Liz - add to that - the 1.9 million copies their CD sold is a far cry from their previous album sales, and ticket sales for the Chicks have not been good.

Aww, I love you guys. It can be so irritating - and a little lonely - to be a tv junkie like I am and constantly see irrelevent political jabs mixed in with otherwise fun pop culture junk.

Edited post -- DELETED.
ADDENDUM -- SORRY! I think I jumped the gun on the previous commentor. Rereading the post, I think Marymqc64 is in agreement with others who find the insertion of politics into even the most innocuous TV Guide news item annoying. As do I!
