Feel the Rayburn! Idol Producers Revive Match Game

"The ongoing WGA strike has made producers so desperate, they've decided to revive _____ as a game show."

Richard Dawson, winking at contestant Jeanine, raises his answer card to reveal: "Match Game."

American Idol producer FremantleMedia North America is developing a contemporary version of Match Game, the quizzer created in 1962 and revived in several incarnations since. Gene Rayburn hosted the most-remembered version, in the '70s, and the panel of celeb participants was famously frequented by the likes of Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers and Twiggy.

Who would you select as the modern-day equivalents of Charles, Richard et al? Share your "dream panel" in comments!

Update: Here is our dream panel for "Match Game 2008"!

They seriously need some snarky gay guy on the panel and who's snarkier or gayer than Michael Ausiello?!

If only Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Somers hadn't already passed away. :(

Twiggy was never on the Game. But the 1970s version did feature a lot of "Laugh-In" regulars like Jo Anne Worley and Patti Deutesch.

A new version should include Kathy Griffin (who was on the Game Show Marathon version and fabulous as the Brett Somers substitute)and Carson Kressley (who would be superb as a new Charles Nelson Reilly).

I'm with nyjoey77 on Mario Cantone and Wanda Sykes. They both came to me immediately. I wouldn't mind seeing Ausiello on there either.

I'm thinking Paula Deen and Kathy Griffin also.

Wish I could think of some other guys.

Leah, you are incredibly young, aren't you. (either that or I'm incredibly old and I'd rather not go there.)
