Alec Baldwin's True View on 30 Rock and More
Alec Baldwin on The View by Heidi Gutman/ABC
Second- and third-hand accounts, be gone. Alec Baldwin's pre-taped appearance on The View unspooled Friday, and here is what he said about:
The message he left for his daughter: "There's nothing wrong with being frustrated or angry about something. I took it out on the wrong person because I'm unable, under the current dynamic, to address the other person," meaning ex-wife Kim Basinger.
Why he was frustrated: After Basinger neglected on three occasions to cede custody of their daughter, Ireland, when she went to work on projects, "We pressed a contempt charge, because... we had no other outlet for enforcement. Finally they said, 'We will obey the order' [and] I was given my daughter. I had two blissful weeks.... The mother comes home and the phone gets turned off and I don't speak to the child again for 10 days."
The "pig" word: "I've had a lot of people say to me that if all of us were to lose our custody rights because you said something inappropriate, we would have a parentless society, basically."
Asking to leave 30 Rock: "There are 250 or 300 people who go to work every day on this show... and I don't want those people to be negatively impacted by the situation, so I've asked NBC to let me out of my contract. I said to them, 'I really, really, really don't want to do it anymore because I would like to take a piece of my life, whether it's three years or five years... and devote myself to the cause [of parental alienation]. If I never acted, I couldn't care less." NBC, as previously reported, effectively declined Baldwin's request.

I feel bad for the guy. I hope he gets through this. I really hope that the other parent put her differences aside and they both come to a mutual agreement and both be there for their daughter, instead of it being a war of words between them. Because this situation have been going on for some time now, and I know they have to keep asking themselves, "why are we still fighting"? It's not worth the child's pain, and it shouldn't be.

I do agree with feeling bad for him, but he should not take his anger out on his daughter. My parents went through a rough divorce as well, but my brother and I were old enough that they did not have to seek custody of us, and my mother would talk bad about my father, but I tried to see the positive things about him. I dont think what he did was right, but at the same time, he really is genuinely sorry for the pain he has caused. I think that he will be able to work through this and be the father that he knows he can be and would like to be. Hopefully, his daughter will grow up to understand that BOTH of her parents love her, and want whats best for her, and let the positive outweigh the negative.

Let's see. He attacks women. He threatens and intimidates children. He hides behind a network and lawyers who keep getting him out of scrape after scrape like this. And you feel bad for the guy?
So, does he have to get caught beating up another woman or child before he gets some sort of limits placed on his actions?

Kim, is that you?

The frustration at the divorce/custody situation is tremendous. He made a mistake. But the only one he hasn't apologized to that he really needs to is Ireland. He couldn't reveal if he has spoken with her. He needs to look into a camera and apologize for the way he expressed his being hurt at not being able to see/speak with her. What he was feeling is ligit, just the way he choose to express it to her was very wrong and he needs to take responsibility for that.

What Alec Baldwin said to his child was wrong but hasn't every parent said something inappropriate to their child at least once?
He's human and he made a mistake like we all do. He let his temper get the best of him. Something that he seems to really regret.
If what Alec Baldwin states about Kim's parental interference is true it's Kim that we should be railing against.

Let's remember that we are only hearing one side of the story. There must be a reason that the mother is so resistant to let her child spend time with the father...

What Alec Baldwin said to his daughter was really bad (major understatement), made worse by having it be publicized to the extent it has.
While Alec has to take responsibility for what he said (to IRELAND, no one else), I feel Kim Basinger or whoever gave the tape to the media should accept their responsbility in this incident as well. (And if Kim didn't have anything to do with it, she should denounce whoever did.)
It is sad that in this day and age such an incident by someone in the public eye is considered NEWS. I think that the negative impact such a story would have on the child should have outweighed its newsworthiness and not been publicized in the first place. So I feel the media should accept its responsbility for the damage that has been done.
To see Alec going on TV, like his appearance on The View and/or talking to Dr. Phil and allowing him to comment on this, makes Alec seem like he is trying to assume the role of victim. While it was a low blow to have this incident be made public, I don't feel Alec should play the victim card. Why not take the high road? In my opinion Alec's response should have been "no comment as it is (or should be) a private matter." He could make amends to his daughter in private and let the court sort out the leak to the public.
Alec and Kim are both acting like children here. This is not a movie and it needs to be remembered that there is a child involved. Both of them need to grow up, check their enormous egos at the door and deal with their divorce issues in private.
Alec, Kim and the Media are NOT the victims here. The ONLY victim in all of this is Ireland.

What Alec Baldwin said to his child was wrong but hasn't every parent said something inappropriate to their child at least once?
Um...no, Happyfaith. I have two sons and I've never said anything close to "pig" to them when I'm mad. I chose my words careful, especially in the heat of the moment because words/situation can have a lasting impact on kids.
It's not up to any of us to forgive Baldwin. Let's hope Ireland isn't negatively affected by what he says and what his ex-wife does or does not do. I do believe in "where there's smoke, there's fire" so Kim isn't completely innocent in all of this.

I believe it would be a mistake for AB to give up his 30 rock spot for his daughter. Should he give it up for himself, or his daughter, I believe this would be destructive. He could then obsess even more regarding his child and his ex. I believe the show gives him a healthy outlet for his overwhelming emotions, However, I certainly could be very wrong. I have a disturbing tickly feeling regarding how KB has mostly managed to shut down publicly regarding this situation. How does she cope with the stress and publicity of their family? Hope the professionals can save this family more heartache and trauma/drama. I will continue to keep their family in my thoughts/prayers.

Alec doesn't need to make a public apology. This is between him and his daughter. He didn't say those things to me. He doesn't have to apologize to me.
I love Alec on 30 Rock and hope he stays--wants to stay. That said, he daugther is more important. I hope he is able to work things out all the way around.

Thank god we live in a world where we can pass judgment on people who aren't us thanks to the wonderfully appropriate actions of the oh-so-classy entertainment media.
Lord beer me strength.

I also felt sorry for Alec. I know he is only human, and as humans we make mistakes....big mistakes. And I know he is hurting inside of what he said to his daughter. You can truely see that he loves his daughter, and he is also hurting inside. I started to tear up when he was talking about how his mother called him up and started talking about other things that are going on instead of this controversy.
KB needs to be ashamed of herself of what she is putting her daughter through.
