ABC Redials The Nine as Traveler Hits the Road

The Nine by Michael Yarish/ABC
This Wednesday and next, ABC's underappreciated Traveler presents its final two episodes — and, yes, we do mean final, as series creator David DiGilio details in his TVGuide.com celebrity blog update. "We have sadly reached the point where our show is most likely not coming back," he writes. "ABC has officially let our cast contracts lapse." Read more about it here. Excellent blog entry.

In keeping with that "Circle of Life" thing I hear about in my kids' Lion King DVD, shortly after Traveler hits the road, ABC is bringing back the also-underappreciated The Nine for, one would hope, all six of its unaired episodes, starting Aug. 1 at 10 pm/ET. Alas, fans should not count on finding out exactly "What happened in there" as Episode 13 was not designed to deliver 100 percent closure. My standing theory? Someone stole one of those chained bank pens, and things got very ugly.

AAARRRGGGGHHHHHH! I really loved this show! And here I thought the execs at ABC were getting their collective act together!

Thanks, Matt, for teasing his celebrity blog - will run read it now!

I am glad for The Nine fans, though, that they're going to get these other episodes!

I can not believe this! Another good show and ABC pulls it. And they are bringing back the Nine? Especially after Matt Roussh basically told me not to ever get my hopes up on The Nine! I am thrilled and I too hope they air all the eposides. Will they air some of first ones so we can catch up as to where we left off? OR will TBTB just start the show as if it was never off? WEIRD! But I am sad about Traveler, I really enjoyed that show. I hope they at least give us some closer on this show. :) Thanks Matt for the information, you ROCK! (Don't tell that to Ausiello!!)

Thanks for the update, MWM! I'm sorry to see Traveler go, but I knew that it would be short-lived. Kudos to whomever got David DiGilio to blog for TVGuide.com--his blogs added another dimension to the show that we all really enjoyed.

Happy to see The Nine come back as well. Even if ABC is just burning off the episodes, I grew attached to the characters and want to see how they end up!

I hope they give us a detailed recap, because who can remember what was going on when The Nine was put on indefinite hiatus? And while it will be nice to see the unaired episodes, the fact that the story won't be resolved makes it all a little hollow, IMO.

Matt - - I'm confused. Since there was a rerun this week (7/4), did that push everything back a week? According to TV Guide's own listings, next week (7/11) is episode 7, with the finale the following week (7/18).

You said in your post that this Wednesday is the final episode; can you clear it up for me, please? I'm leaving for vacation the next week and need to know what to record and when...

Thanks!

Good catch, hawkman. I misread the opening of Dave's blog. The news item has been edited.

I enjoyed Traveler as well. :( Matt, is there any chance another network will pick it up? Though I'm no TV critic, I thought it was a pretty good show.

You know what really irks me about this? I thought maybe the stations would learn something this year after so many shows lost audience interest after they kept yanking and moving them around and going weeks between new episodes. It ruined SO many good shows and I had hope for the future. I guess I was just crazy. Summer shows aren't supposed to have the ratings fall shows have people!

Hell -- I don't know why I bother watching network television. Every intelligent show that a person over 40 can enjoy and vests time in gets cancelled. Traveler was a tv series "page turner" and I loved turning the pages. Happy for The Nine, but Traveler now tops the heap of good shows like Kidnapped and Six Degrees that have been axed. Maybe if they had top recording artist performing in every episode the network would have felt it was worth keeping!!!

OK TPTB, listen up. Stop canceling all the good shows. Why even bother putting on a series if we can't even get to the end of one season (and the summer season is even shorter) without it being pulled from the line up or moved all over the place or taken off for 2 months just to put the last few episodes on. What a waste of time. Thank goodness for TNT and TBS and USA. I enjoy a lot of those series and if I miss it, they re-air it several times during the week.
