ABC Cancels Circus of the Stars
The Alphabet network isn't clowning around.
Hot on the heels of CBS' cancellation of Secret Talents of the Stars after only one episode, ABC has decided to scrap its revival of Secret Talent's predecessor, Circus of the Stars. The reasoning behind the move, Variety reports, is ABC's fear that NBC's eerily similar Celebrity Circus — and the wealth of other celeb-based reality shows — would diminish the casting pool and risk making their show under the big top a big flop. NBC, however, is moving forward with its production as planned.
Do you think ABC made the right move? Will you watch NBC's celebrity sideshow? How many C-listers can fit into a clown car? — Adam Bryant

Do you think ABC made the right move?
Anything that keeps another lame reality show off of tv is a good move.

The TV Gods have spoken, but not like ABC won't put even worse garbage on the air

If the networks think we want to see the stars do something else, they need to bring back Battle of the Network Stars.

I agree strutter. I was about to post a similar comment. I thought that show was great as a pre-teen. I also thought Solid Gold was the best show ever at the time so I probably wasn't a good judge of quality shows. ">

I agree, I used to love that show as a kid. The only problem is these days they would probably make them live in a house together and film that, etc. etc. Battle of the Network Stars Real World Road Rules style. LOL

I'll still watch NBC's Celebrity Circus. As long as it is as fun as UK's Cirque de Celebrité and of course the kinds of stars they get.

I'm probably in the minority, but as someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I'm one of the few who enjoyed Circus of the Stars. It was cool, it was corny, and heck it was something we all tried to copy on the monkey bars at school the next day (what? you mean you didn't?). Watching stars from Blossom, Full House, and all the other sitcoms of the time performing circus acts outside under the big tent was pretty neat. So, if ABC was going to bring the show back, with the same quality it had before, using the same concept of taking stars currently on the air (like maybe eva longoria, patrick dempsey, william shatner, jim belushi, christina applegate, etc) and not just has-beens, the show may have actually been good. But, if it is was going to be like CBS' flop with stars doing things they should never attempt in public (like George Takei singing country) then I'm glad they are pulling it before it airs.
However, I'd love to see clips from it on ABC.com...maybe if they do that, and they get enough hits, they'd consider airing it on TV.
Just a thought.

I refusedto watch it and had zero idea that "Circus" was out there. YIKES! Yes, it was a good idea to axe BOTH shows.

Somehow I don't see current ABC talent flocking to do this kind of show. 20 years ago, most TV actors/actresses were just that. They didn't run off in the summer to make a movie so they had a few months to kill and they probably were contractually obligated to promote the show in any way a network saw fit (even in corny shows like BNS). I think most A-list talents would make sure their contracts kept them from having to do such.
Would I watch it? Not if I can help it. I can count on one hand (with a couple of fingers left over) the number of reality shows I watch.

It is only a matter of time before all the horrible "reality" shows start to die off...seriously how many versions of "Rock of Love" or "Flavor of Love" can there be? Or "Dancing with the Stars" ad naseum...first of all there is rarely an actual "star" on any of these shows. And how about people like Carnie Wilson and Maureen McCormick and Stphen Baldwin who now have a "career" jumping from reality show to reality show? Have you seen the ads for the "Celebrity" magic show? Seriousnly - the promo was so bad I thought it was a sketch from SNL. I only recognized one person - yup - Carnie Wilson. All these stupid reality shows need to go and bring back more sitcoms (1/2 hour like "Frasier" or hour like "Ugly Betty").
