Hurray for Juno, the little movie that could! This was such a sweet, fresh movie. After watching this, I thought at the very least, it deserved an Oscar nom for "Best Original Screenplay".
I'm also happy for Johnny Depp, Tommy Lee Jones and Viggo Mortensen.

No Helena Bonham Carter for Sweeney Todd? Inexcusable. Kudos for the Johnny Depp nod, though. Too bad Daniel Day-Lewis is up.

Very happy about Johnny Depp and Viggo Mortensen, although I admit that the majority of movies I haven't see yet.

No documentary nomination for The King Of Kong? And only costumes for Across The Universe? It's a world gone mad.

Wow, virtually no hit movies nominated at all. Let's hope the Oscar broadcast gets canceled. This one has Snoozefest written all over it. Perhaps they should rename the Oscars the Films No One Saw Awards.
I couldn't care less about the show this year given the nominations.

Isn't it about time for James Spader to free up some space for someone else? Unbelievable that there was no love for Friday Night Lights. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are absolutely fantastic.

Looks like this is going to be the Year of the Indepedant Films.... known in the business as.... Another Year.
With all the big films this year, I am very disappointed at the nominations. I mean did they really put The Golden Compass in with AWE and Transformers for Visual Effects? Really? Not Spidy3, Harry Potter5, 300, etc, etc, etc.... they pick Golden Compass? They could have easily chosen 5 nominations for that category this year. And imo AWE should have been nominated for best Song.
And perhaps the worst category of all this year was Animation. Surf's Up and Persepolis? A film no one liked and a film no one saw? Why not just hand it to Ratatouille. And how on earth were Goofy's Home Entertainment Theater and Pixar's Lifted shunned out of Best Animated Short?
Perhaps the only category I am happy with is the Best Original Song category. I am so happy that Enchanted swept the competition with 3 out of the 5 nods. I just hope the Oscars airs in full so we can see those performed.
But I mean the Academy thinks the ratings are down because of the host or the length. That is just downright wrong. The show could be 2 hours or 4 hours, but either way its just a bore after the first 15 minutes (and the occasional bits by the host during the show). If they want better ratings they need to nominate better films. I mean come on. Only one film is going to win anyway, why not throw in some of the bigger films? Everyone already knows Atonement is going to win in Best Picture, so why not just replace There Will Be Blood with At World's End? Why not replace Amy Ryan with Imelda Staunton for Best Supporting Actress? Is it going to hurt anyone? No. Would it help ratings? Yes.

I would have liked to have seen Into the Wild get a few more nominations. Sean Penn deserves some credit for this, and Eddie Vedder's music was worthy of a nod. So I'm disappointed.

Hooray for Ellen Page. Though I don't expect her to win since she has very stiff competition, it's great to see an actress who has a bright future ahead of her recognised so early in her career.
However, I am disappointed to see that Ryan Gosling did not get an acting nom for his role in Lars and the Real Girl. Again, as disappointed as I am in his lack of nomination, I am comforting myself with the knowledge that his time to win the golden statue will come to pass eventually.

Wow, virtually no hit movies nominated at all
If that was the criteria for awards, then Hannah Montana would sweep the Grammys and the Emmys. WHO wants to see that?

I'm nauseated by the results in the Best Original Song category. THREE songs from that waste of two hours of my life called "Enchanted?" Talk about stacking the deck. I heard so many better suggestions from critics everywhere. At least they got one in from "Once."

I've seen all five nominees for Best Picture and I'm completely rooting for Atonement and There Will Be Blood, two of my most favorite movies of the year. In fact if they both swept the categories they're in (of course they have to give and take the ones they share) then I'll be very happy.
A few things made me sad though. Norbit getting Best Makeup over Sweeney Todd and Hairspray is one. Surf's Up getting the spot that The Simpsons Movie should've taken. James McAvoy and Ryan Gosling being nowhere on the list. And Jason Reitman for Best Director (seriously?).
Everything else seem to be pretty good. I *love* that two of my favorite movie songs of the year got nominated: "Faling Slowly" (Once) and "So Close" (Enchanted). I hope either one wins.
Again, everyone should see Atonement and There Will Be Blood. Both are FANTASTIC films and yet wholly different.
