Kiefer: You Can Count On 24's "Best Season Yet"

Not that 24 fans needed to be made more excited/impatient for the long-delayed Season 7, Kiefer Sutherland at Fox's upfront presentation promised truly super-Bauered times ahead — and in a way, you have the WGA-AMPTP feud to thank for it. "After so many postponements, I can assure you that none of us at 24 took for granted the significance of this upcoming season," the series star-producer said. "But the time allowed us to do something that has never been done before — create a map of the entire season before we started shooting. So I can tell you without hesitation, I know for a fact, that Season 7 is going to be the best season yet."

What's more, Sutherland — who leaves for South Africa in a few weeks to begin filming the two-hour 24 movie airing Nov. 23 — says the real-time "prequel" to Day 7 will be a good time as well. "[Writer-executive producer] Howard Gordon is most proud of this [script] of anything he's done," Sutherland shared. "I can't tell you how excited we are to make it."

OK, I need November to be here, like, now. — MWM

HALLELUJAH! It sure is nice to have something good come out of the strike.

Season 7 needs to be great,Season 6 sucked big time!!! I've been a die hard fan since the beginning and frankly if its not good, I will give it up!!! As far as the 2 hour movie, I don't see how that can possibly work but I'll give it a shot

Hey, if Kiefer says it, I trust the guy.

Does anyone know if the prequel is actually going to be real-time or not? My friends and I have been debating this for months. On one hand, there's not too much that one could do in two hours, unless we're dropped almost immediately into the action. On the other, real-time is 24's trademark, and it wouldn't be the same without it. It will definitely be a different thing to watch, that's for sure!

Bring on Season 7.

The Fox upfronts referred to the two-hour movie as being "real-time," yes.

This also makes me think about season 8. Since filming for season 7 will be completed this fall, they could potentially write the entire season before filming it starting in late July 2009.

However, could they do this while also asking their cast to hang around a good NINE MONTHS between filming seasons?

I'm actually hoping that season 7 and 8 are closely connected and that they can sort of just jump from one season to the next. I think it's REALLY important for them to have less cast turnover between seasons.

That might be really risky (writing and filming season 8 before most of day 7 has even aired!), but I think that keeping the same cast for two years is certainly more important!

The rushed, "make it up as we go along" writing style of "24" has always been its Achilles heel. Sure, it's produced some wild moments, but some of the best ideas have been forced to the wayside when time constraints demand quick and easy "shock tactics". Season 6 was the perfect example of that...four strong, pre-planned episodes followed by 20 attempts to keep the ball rolling on the fly.

This news is easily the most positive sign I've seen for Season 7!

Even after the disaster of S6, I am waiting on pins and needles for the movie, and S7.

If the coming season of the show turns out to be critically praised, and draws in a bunch of viewers, then I hope that their model for the following season will also be to plot out the whole season's worth of episodes beforehand, rather than writing it as they go.
