24 Plus Nine Star and D.C. Setting Equals...?

John Billingsley, formerly of The Nine as well as Fox's own Prison Break, has been added to the Season 7 cast of 24 in the recurring role of "Latham." No other details on the character have been disclosed, however. Also, says the Reporter, Jeffrey Nordling (a recurring player on Dirt) has landed a series-regular gig on 24 as an FBI agent named Larry. The coming season of 24 will largely be set in Washington, D.C., says the trade.

PS to fans of The Nine: If the season/series finale, which broke online Thursday, left you with burning questions, share them in my Trivial Matt'rs blog.

Whatever people say about The Nine now, it did have a fantastic pilot, and Billingsley was the stand-out of the pilot in many regards. I remember reading that he was tipped to be the break-out star of the season.

Alas, it was not meant to be.

However, as a die-hard fan of 24 (yeah, even after last season!) and a die-hard fan of Billingsley (since his days on The Others) I couldn't be happier with this news.

Even with the bad stuff going on around him, the performance of (and writing for) Peter MacNicol in last season's 24 made him my favourite new character of the season (in any show).

If anyone is capable of doing something like that in 2008, it's John Billingsley.

Let us not forget he was Dr Phlox on "Enterprise" for four years! He was great on it and it was the first I had ever heard of him. He is a wonderful actor and so is his wife.

Hmm, "Latham" I bet he'll be all shadowy. I bet he'll be morally on the gray side of things. Perhaps he'll have some connection to the events of the day that will be presented as an ohmigod moment! Sorry, I will be watching this season but last season took all of the credibility they built up over the past few years and smashed it with a sledgehammer. From the things I'm hearing so far, it sounds like business as usual except this time in D.C. Though hopefully the actors they've attracted (Jeanane Garafolo and John Billingsly among others) will bring something worthwhile to the table.

I was never a huge fan of the show, but he was definitely the most talented actor of the cast.

Congratulations John! His "Phlox" was one of the best things about Star Trek: Enterprise... glad to hear he's landed on a hit TV show like 24.

I am very happy about this! He is a wonderful actor. I hope his character is quirky as that seems to be the best type of character for him.

His guest appearance on Angel still has my skin crawling -- looking forward to having him creep me out on 24 as well! :O
