Writers, Producers Agree to Resume Talks Nov. 26

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and WGA have agreed on a date to talk turkey... after having some turkey. The following statement was released late Friday: "Leaders from the AMPTP and the WGA have mutually agreed to resume formal negotiations on Nov. 26," aka after the Thanksgiving holiday (aka after the tryptophan has worn off and everyone is alert and perky again).

Let's all cross our fingers and hope that the remainder of the TV season can be salvaged and that we won't, in fact, have to rely on such fare as "My Father Can Beat Up Your 5th Grader." (Which, as I type it, actually sounds fun to watch. But you get my point.) — Matt Webb Mitovich

I am SO happy they are going to talk again. Here's hoping they sit down like grown-ups and work this out, giving the writers what they deserve, giving the people in LA & NYC their jobs back, and giving the fans their shows. With fingers crossed,

Fingers are crossed for a quick resolution to the current strike. I hope they don't drag this out.

Matt, your "tryptophan has worn off and everyone is alert and perky again" comment was funny. What's the vegetarian Thanksgiving equivalent?

I will be thankful for new episodes of my favorite shows next year.

Excellent news...hopefully. Maybe the holiday spirit will overcome all of them.
opack420 - I read somewhere that they just need to resolve it before the end of January. Who knows if that report was accurate though.

Wonderful news. Hopefully it goes well. As much as I do like Big Brother, I don't want to watch a winter edition!

Crossing my fingers real tight for a productive discussion. I want 16 episodes of Lost and 24 back in January. Also, I want FOX to lose that crappy strike schedule and not move Bones to Friday's.

Uh huh! I believe the Producers are going to seriously talk like I believe pigs can fly. This is one more token effort on their part - mark my words they have no intention letting the writers gain any ground at all. They just need to keep the token efforts coming to keep the gov from stepping in and the public outcry down. They'll hang around until the first excuse comes up to walk out then it will be - we'll resume after new years, etc.

Aint
gonna
happen.

As much as I want them to strike an agreement, I really don't think the AMPTP will give up any ground to the WGA, even if they're sitting with their stomachs full with turkey. WGA also will probably not give into the AMPTP. The strike will probably go well into next year.

The most we can hope for is to wait for 24 next next year or to hope some of the writers to cross picket lines.

I hope the talks work out. Lots of non-writers and non-producers also have there livelihoods at stake in this strike. Please, give the writers a share of the money made on distribution of shows through new technologies, and end this now.

I watched Heroes on NBC's website, and it had commercials for Dove body wash. So NBC had to make money for those commercials, but the writers did not. Not fair.

It's good to know that they are going to try to work things out again. Hopefully this will work. In the meantime, how would we go about contacting these parties? I want them to know that I am not into reality shows and would give up on their networks forever if they think that type of television interests me. I watch alot of shows and they have to work something out.
