Music to Grammys' Ears: WGA Won't Picket

The WGA announced on Tuesday that it would not picket the Feb. 10 Grammy Awards, thus freeing up any involved or intersted talent to attend, perform and/or present at the ceremony. The guild stopped short of offering a waiver to the Grammys, however, meaning that WGA writers won't be able to scribble for the show. "We are pleased with the decision made by the WGA today," says Recording Academy president Neil Portnow. "In light of this, we are gratified that the 50th annual Grammy Awards will focus solely on the great music, artists and charitable work resulting from our show. We look forward to unveiling the exciting lineup of artists who will give our worldwide audience one of the most memorable Grammy shows ever."

I may totally in the minority here, but as much as I support the writers getting their fair share in new media pie, I really won't miss their contributions to award shows.

I'm sorry but the inane babble that is scripted for the presenters to say is usually stupid and not funny.

I don't really remember alot of banter for the Grammys so I doubt the writers will be missed - and it would be a shame if the grammys weren't on because that is recognizing achievement in music.

Well, since I believe that they should be showing solidarity with the writers, I won't be watching the show, so advertisers take note, your message will be lost to me. I realize that they don't have the same issues, but they know what it is like to have to go up against congloms themselves, and I think they should reconsider with whom they should be in solidarity. So while I understand why the WGA decided not to picket it, and that's fine, but I still won't be doing what they want of me... which is watching it.

The reason the WGA decided not to picket the Grammys was because Beyonce stood up to them and signed on to perform regardless of a picket. The Grammys would have been a huge home run for the studios if the WGA would have picketed. WGA knew they couldn't get another home run like the Golden Globes. That was their one shot. SAG won't hang with them if this is still going on at Oscar time.

I'm in total agreement about supporting the writers but NOT missing them at the Grammys. That banter is always so goofy anyway. I just want to hear the music.

I personally thought it was too selfish to request that people like Queen Latifah, JT, Beyonce and Ludacris forego the awards show for "solidarity". I'm sorry but long before they received their SAG cards, they were in the studio making music. One has nothing to do with the other.

Hopefully the resumed talks today will lead to a resolution soon.
