Michael Eisner Tells CNBC, "The Strike Is Over"

During a Thursday afternoon visit to CNBC's Fast Money, former Disney CEO Michael Eisner boldly declared the three-month-old WGA strike "over." Pressed to elaborate, he said, "They've made a deal, they shook hands on a deal [and it] is going on Saturday to the constituents [for a vote]." Eisner went so far as to assert, "It's impossible that [the writers] turn it down. A deal has been made and they will be back to work reasonably soon."

The Fast Money host smartly asked Eisner if he was aware of what he was proclaiming over the airwaves, and the guest stuck to his story, saying, "I know the deal's been made and I know the strike is over. I have some friends in certain places and I believe there was a handshake [agreement] last Friday. It's possible they [the guild] will turn it down but it would be insane if they [did]."

Wow this statement is a sure deal killer. The scribes hate theses guys so much that they will turn down the deal just to spite them.

If he turns out to be wrong, I a never coming back here... Honestly... I am jumping out of my chair right now, because I'm so darn happy, and if the deal is turned down, you'll make my life miserable :^O

Michael Eisner's got a big mouth he needs to shut. When he interviewed Ben Silverman about NBC's 2007-2008 season last year it's a wonder their combined egos didn't cause the camera to break. I'm afraid even if the deal's fair that the writers are going to want to see a certain threshold to justify striking even if the math doesn't back it up. I bet they'll be disappointed considering the disparity between the actual streaming data they have and what the WGA thought was the case (off by 300% supposedly). We should let the WGA negotiators explain why they went for what they did to the members and if it's reasonable they'll be able to sell it and will have anticipated and tried to address any potential trouble. Let's cross our fingers.

Eisner should shut his mouth until he is definately sure if this strike is over or not. Never assume.

What does it matter if the strike is over? They already effectively killed this season as well as putting into question or killing some of the best shows on TV (i.e. FNL, Journeyman). This is officially the worst year of TV I can remember.

Why would you quote Michael Eisner? Has he been right about anything in the past 10 years? All he does these days is sit around and throw darts at pictures of Steve Jobs.

Let's hope the writers get more than the scraps the nets want them to get. Let's hope the strike is over.
But when snakes like Eisner make a statement saying everything is done but the signing by WGA, it puts all the pressure on WGA. If it is not a fair deal and they don't sign - guess who will look like the bad guys?

I hope that isn't a Rat I smell...
