Fox "Strike" Schedule Subtracts 24, Adds Prison Break

Fox's "revised" 2008 schedule kicks off Jan. 13 and 14 with the series premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and starts cooking with gas on the 15th with the two-night return of that singing show known as American Idol, but now is experiencing a Bauer outage. "The seventh-season premiere of 24 is being postponed," explains the network, "to ensure that Day 7 can air uninterrupted, in its entirety." Fair 'nuff.

Another jaw-dropper: Instead of taking a four-month breather following a Dec. 17 "fall finale," Prison Break will take a break after this Monday's airing, then return with new episodes starting Jan. 14.

Other Fox programming:

• Starting Jan. 4, the Friday night lineup features encores of Bones at 8 and House at 9. (House leads out of Idol starting Jan. 22.)
The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad, 5th Grader, Don't Forget the Lyrics!, Cops and America's Most Wanted all will continue with original episodes, while a mix of original and encores is currently planned for House, Bones, 'Til Death and Back to You.
• The game show The Moment of Truth premieres Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 9 pm/ET.
New Amsterdam premieres Friday, Feb. 22, at 9 pm.
• The Farrelly Brothers comedy Unhitched premieres Sunday, March 2, at 9:30 pm.
• The unscripted role-reversal series When Women Rule the World debuts Monday, March 3, at 8.
The Return of Jezebel James premieres Friday, March 7, at 8:30.
Hell's Kitchen returns with a fourth season on April 1.
Canterbury's Law, starring Julianna Margulies, premieres April 11.

Of all the networks I think Fox is probably the least worried. Each year American Idol is the only reason Fox makes a profit of any kind. So as long as AI is around Fox is A-OK.

Not to mention, it seems that FOX saw this coming and stocked up on mid-season replacements ... good for them.

Does that mean "24" won't be on at all in 2008? And what's with "Bones" being moved to Fridays at 8:00? What's the sense of that?

They only used the word "encore" after House but I got the impression that they were both encores

So the animated shows have enough originals to stay on the air? Any idea how long they'll last before running out? I can't imagine they'd have a whole season written already.

They're actually moving Bones to Friday night w/ House repeats?! Are they crazy?!?! Bones deserves better treatment than that. Are they trying to get one of their best shows cancelled??

Animation is written far, far in advance of its airdate. The animation process takes many months, and I assume every episode of the season is in production right now (or already completed, of course).

This 24 news is breaking my heart....

I think Fox made a good choice with 24 (although I have yet to watch it, so I can't comment as proprly as its fans might.) I hope ABC does the same with Lost (which I do watch.) Interrupting either of these shows midseason would just kill the tension and traction of the narrative, I think. That said, I do hope the DVDs still hit in December so I can at least have the entire series to date of Lost to rewatch during the strike. Also, I have always wanted to try out 24, so maybe if the strike lasts a while I can catch up with all its DVDs. I wish this weren't happening, but I'm trying to look for some silver lining here. That's all I've got.

Bones on Friday makes me sad. This season, Friday certainly has a wide variety of quality stuff to pick from, but still.

FOX did prepare themselves for this. And as long as they have AI, they're okay. It looks like everyone is gonna be forced to watch that show again.

I guess becasue it was my last year of college (glued to books, not the tube)I don't remember much about the writer's strike in '88. Wasn't China Beach a victim?

How is no 24 better than viewing the episodes that have already been filmed and then getting a break in between?

Well, 24 was the only show I was really worried about re: the strike. And now my worst fears have come to pass. Oh well, more free time for me.
