Carson Daly by Michael Williams/NBC
Carson Daly's return to his NBC show Later isn't leading a stampede of other late-night hosts — who have been benched by the writers' strike — back to work.
While they are carefully monitoring the situation, none of the more high-profile names want to risk the wrath of the Writers Guild of America, which publicly chastised Daly's decision to go back to work even though he isn't a WGA member. NBC was scheduled to stop paying non-writing staffers of Later, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Tonight Show with Jay Leno at the end of this week, which led to speculation that the shows might return soon afterwards.
But a source tells TV Guide that O'Brien, who hasn't been paid since the strike began on Nov. 5, will pick up the salaries of his show's employees next week, following David Letterman's decision to personally fund his payroll through the end of the year. Looks like its going to be another big week for Nightline. — Stephen Battaglio
