Which Reality Host Would You Give an Emmy To?
As reported in Wednesday's Today's News blog, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is thisclose to adding a new category to this year's Primetime Emmy Awards — Outstanding Reality Host.
Who gets your vote? Who, would you say, is instrumental to the success and enjoyment of his/her show, and does more than simply front it with a smiley face?
Below is the list, and here is the poll.
Tyra Banks, America's Next Top Model Tom Bergeron, Dancing with the Stars Julie Chen, Big Brother Cat Deeley, So You Think You Can Dance Chris Harrison, The Bachelor Phil Keoghan, The Amazing Race Heidi Klum, Project Runway Drew Lachey, Dance War Padma Lakshmi, Top Chef Ty Pennington, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Dr Drew Pinsky, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew Jeff Probst, Survivor Mike Richards, Beauty and the Geek Ryan Seacrest, American Idol Alison Sweeney, The Biggest Loser Donald Trump, The Apprentice

Even though I love Cat Deeley, I'd give it to Phil... And isn't it Keoghan?

Chris Harrison? Ha! Tyra Banks? Ha Ha! Donald Trump? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!!
The only two even worthy of consideration: 1. Phil Keoghan 2. Jeff Probst
I wonder if game show hosts Like Howie Mandel, Jeff Foxworthy and Bob Saget will be eligible?

Without a doubt, Jeff Probst. And Phil is a close 2nd but Jeff's commentary during challenges is great and he really brings tribal councils to life!

I'd have to go with my precious Phil Keoghan, might as well keep all the Emmys in the same family. HOWEVER, I'd also make a case for Dimples Probst.

Here are my nominations:
Jeff Probst Heidi Klum Cat Deeley Ryan Seacrest Phil Keoghan
With a win to Keoghan. Though I'd be happy with Klum too.
But imagine the hilarity if the Chenbot got a nomination.
And for the question about the game show hosts - even though their shows air in prime time I believe that they are eligible for the daytime Emmy award for best game show host. I think Regis won one year for Millionaire.

Just don't give Tyra one, it'll only cause her megalomania to explode into even greater heights.
If you have to give an emmy to one I figure give it to Jeff Probst seeing he was all for all intents and purposes the first. Not to mention he's one of the few reality host who actually possesses at least a small amount of dignity and class.

I agree on Amazing Phil and Cat Deeley, but I also think Tom Bergeron gets overlooked. He is very quick on his feet on DWTS and navigates some very tense moments pretty well.
The thing is I think the live hosts have a far harder job than the ones who can flub their lines and retape them as many times at they want.

Tom Bergeron - he's funny and somehow manages to keep his cool and even give divas (both male and female)a bit of humanity. And - it's LIVE!
Whether she faked it or not (PLEASE let's not start that up again) his handling of Marie Osmond's collapse alone was Emmy-worthy.

I was just horrified when I realized I am familiar with all of them except the Top Chef. I watch entirely too much TV! That being said, I would place my Top 2 as Jeff Probst and Phil Keoghan. They are both intelligent, insightful and hilarious. I love how they are both subtle and obvious in their exchanges with their respective "casts". I think this category will be a welcome addition to the Emmys.

OMG. This is the worst idea in the history of man.
The idea of treating hosts as anything other than a necessary evil turns my stomach. None of these people deserve a salary much less an award, other than the people on the list who are not actually TV hosts - Heidi Klum and Dr. Drew.

Why don't these people deserve a salary? I certainly don't love them all, but just because you don't respect the work doesn't mean it isn't actually work.

Why isn't there a "None of the above" choice, considering reality shows are mostly garbage, and most of the "hosts" shouldn't even be on TV, let alone being "the voice" of an entire series! The only reason most of this garbage is on the air is because the broadcaster has nothing else to put on, and the garbage is cheap to produce. Thanks for nothing!
