Kate Walsh, Nip/Tuck and Other Random Thoughts

• I have almost no problem with Kate Walsh's meteoric rise to superstardom, but could Cadillac run those ads just a few dozen fewer times during the average prime-time hour? (Meanwhile, talk about rolling the dice on a celebrity spokesperson! Imagine if Private Practice tanked?)

• An ad campaign I do love is for the new season of Nip/Tuck. So good are the spots that they make me stop the ad-skip during Damages! I'm so going to get into N/T this season.

• First it was GMA's Diane Sawyer who coyly dodged the elephant in the room, and then it was Dave Letterman (no, not Dave!). I would love to hear precisely how Jennifer Lopez's apparently very powerful peeps are strong-arming interviewers into not pointedly asking about her "rumored" pregnancy (with twins, at that). I can only understand it if J.Lo is some fantastically superstitious individual who truly, honestly believes that 'fessing up too soon in the game will jeopardize Junior. But look at her — how too soon can we be?

• Said it before, I say it again: Prison Break's Sona prison, which in the May season finale came off as utterly horrifying and wretched, now looks like a particularly dingy Motel 6.

• This week's choice honest-to-goodness-it's-real question sent in to Parade's "Personality on Parade" column:

"Gwyneth Paltrow's film The Good Night was written and directed by her brother, Jake. Did he cast her to cash in on her fame? — Giovanni M., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y."

My two questions: 1) Who outside of the Paltrow family and a few film critics even knew of this itty-bitty indie's existence six weeks ago, when this Parade column went to press? And 2) isn't the obvious answer, "Um, yeah"? Oh, but look, sweet serendipity — the published answer is straight from Jake Paltrow himself!

I've seen a worse question. One time someone asked if the actress who plays callie on CSI:Miami had a speech impediment.

The answer of course was NO. It's called an accent, idiot.

Kate Walsh looks hot in the Cadillac ads.

Meanwhile, talk about rolling the dice on a celebrity spokesperson!

I thought that exact same thing. But that's nothing compared to that Nike commercial featuring Tiger Woods' championship run that aired during the PGA championship! Thank goodness he won.

An ad campaign I do love is for the new season of Nip/Tuck.

Of all those cool promos, the Angel with surgically removed wings was Genius. I think F/X's promo department can match up with anybody and any network.

First it was GMA's Diane Sawyer who coyly dodged the elephant in the room, and then it was Dave Letterman (no, not Dave!).

Dave is a joke. People all over America are bamboozled into thinking Dave doesn't hold back on people. Dave only attacks losers (Paris) and idiots (Cheney). Jay may not be controversial but he and his guests always make it entertaining.

Even if Private Practice tanked, Kate would go back to Grey's Anatomy. And even then she's still HOT in those ads so it wouldn't be too bad.

Despite my generally negative opinion of Paris Hilton I thought Letterman came off as a bully during his segment with her. When they appear on a show they are called "guests". That's not how you treat a guest. And how dificult is it to run intellectual circles around Paris? He looked bad and the members of Jackass/ schock-jock culture in the audience who egged him on were jerks.

If I remember correctly, there was, if not exactly bad blood between Jennifer Lopez and Letterman for some time there was at least a period during which she would not appear on the show. I would imagine that Letterman or someone at CBS probably felt it was a good idea to not offend an "A" list star.

In this TMZ age I'm probably in the minority with this opinion though; I don't think it's incumbent on anyone to discuss their pregnancy. A lot of people, especially those who are pregnant for the first time or who have lost a baby, don't like to make announcemnts until after a certain length of time has passed in case there are problems.

I tend to agree with 525600min about Letterman although entertaining isn't an adjective I'd apply to Jay Leno that often.

I would say that I believe the unctuous Diane ain't no prize either. What else can you say about someone who had to be dragged kicking and screaming from Richard Nixon's side when he had to leave the White House in disgrace?

Anyone can see that Lopez is pregnant anyway. What's the big deal about getting the "scoop"?

I like Kate Walsh, too, but her Cadillac ads (or the matching one with the guy) seem to be on in almost every commercial break, on every network, during primetime. I don't mind the commercials, but sometimes there is such a thing as overexposure.

525600min - you gave me my 1st V-8 moment of the day! I so didn't get that the Nip/Tuck ads were showing surgically removed wings. I just thought they were feather fans!

When I first saw those Cadillac ads I wasn't sure if that was Kate Walsh or not.

Am I the only person who thinks that she has some "cosmetic surgery"?? She just looks differently to me than the actress who first appeared on Grey's Anatomy" a few seasons ago....maybe moving her character to LA required that she "go native" and have face work done---Hey, maybe there's an opportunity for a cross-over episode with Nip/Tuck???;)

Matt: This is off topic, but have you ever been able to get any answers to the questions fans left regarding The Nine?
Thanks!

Doesn't Julian look awesome in those N/T ads!? This show is so over-the-top fabulous and word is that this season is going to be even more so. Great time to get into it if you haven't been watching. Warning: it's addictive...

I agree about the N/T ads. I don't watch the show, but those ads definitely catch my attention.
