The Jericho Finale You Didn't See: An Inside Look
Lennie James by Monty Brinton/CBS
Have Jericho fans seen the last of their show, now that CBS has aired the "alternate" ending/series-ender? Executive producer Carol Barbee, who is currently shopping the drama around to other outlets, shares a peek at the original season finale.
TVGuide.com: Will viewers have any burning questions coming out of the alternate ending/series finale? Carol Barbee: Let me see.... I can tell you that in the original ending, Hawkins has to sacrifice himself to let Jake get away with the bomb and get it to Texas so it can be tested and prove that they were telling the truth. Texas would then swing their support to Columbus and defeat Cheyenne.
TVGuide.com: Does Hawkins mortally sacrifice himself, or just let himself get captured? Barbee: Well, he gets captured but he's also shot.... He's pretty messed up, and Jake feels like he's leaving him for dead. So we show you where he's taken and you see that the mission for the next season is, "We have to go rescue Hawkins and we have to stop these [bad] guys." When they see the alternate ending, it certainly completes the story from this season and tells you everything you need to know to have understood Season 2. It just doesn't point to that next mission. You meet John Smith, the guy who's been pulling the strings. It's [played by] Xander Berkeley (24). You've heard him on phone calls, and Hawkins is surprised by who he is and where he is. So you know who John Smith is, you know who planned the attacks, you know why, you know how....
TVGuide.com: Now it's just a matter of making things right in the United States? Barbee: Right. We would have moved on to the next level of a civil war between the Cheyenne government and the Columbus government. But if your readers do have any more burning questions, let me know!
TVGuide.com: If Jericho does find a new home on another channel, will Season 3 work off the alternate ending or the original cliff-hanger edit? Barbee: What we would do is take the information that is in the original ending, and that would be the opener for the next season. When we leave them at the end of the original ending, we've got Hawkins back and he's OK, but we still need to go fight the larger fight. I've always said that the alternate ending doesn't wrap up the series. It just lets you know that everyone is OK and it closes out this seven-episode arc. But we could definitely keep it going!
You heard the lady — if you have any burning questions coming out of last night's series finale, post them here.

What if Hawkins was hallucinating due to loss of blood? Then you could air the original ending and keep it going from there!!! We have many questions about the town and them flying the "DON'T TREAD ON ME FLAG". What kind of stand can Beck make with Jericho? How will Jake and Hawkins get back to Jericho? What about "John smith" did he get away or die? Will the ASA try to occupy Jericho? WE NEED MORE!!!!

First i would like to say Thank You for Jericho! If there is anything we can do to get this show away from cbs and onto a network that will give it it's due I am all ears! I loved the ending and i think the Civil War aspect of next Season could be incredible. My question is this..... Next season, will the Towns of Jericho and Newbern become allies again and is the original cast willing to come back when Jericho is picked up by a cable network?
Thanks,
Justin

How about a new home for Jericho on the CW. I watch a lot of shows there. Too bad CBS is losing some of us as supporters of their network.

Thanks again to Carol for continuing to give us hope! And the info on the alternate ending makes me really appreciate this one all the more! Now we're on a great jumping off point to enter into the fracas... and Jericho could have their own batallion with Beck's rejection of Cheyenne... and Texas could have to defend Jericho as they return Jake and Hawkins home...
Yeah, I know... they have writers working on this (just in case)...
One thing this season has proven however is that you can have exciting, thrilling, and compelling television without all the watering down... the fluff... the filler if you will... This final episode could have easily been spread over four or five episodes but we got all the thrills and chills compressed into one! In this day and age of fast paced life... of soundbites and music-video style major motion pictures... we might have seen a glimpse of the future of television!
We all (Jericho fans that is) hope that Jake Green & Jericho are indeed "history"... as the final line from Hawkins suggests... but we want it to be history in the making.

Last night's episode was still a superb storyline that really does leave things very wide open for a Season 3. Carol Barbee and her talented group have provided us with a fantastic program and it is our mission to start the new American Civil War. There is still way too much story to be told. Love that Carol and her group!!

Hi Carol Barbee - "HOW does it feel to make history?" Entertainment history, that is? I have enjoyed the show and am hopeful it will find a new home soon. It was interesting last night, in the midst of such a wonderful episode, that CBS chose to advertise all it's other shows and their return with new episodes - all I am really interested in is - where is Jericho going so I can follow? I hope there is great news soon. Wonderful show last night...I love all your characters, the actors who portray them, and the values, power and strength of Jericho!!!

I want to see Jake and Hawkins fight the fight! I want to see General Beck of teh Jericho Ranger Battalion in the American Civil War II! I need more JERICHO!
It was awesome. There is soooooo much more that can happen. I don't need special effects, I love the story and the cast. You guys can DO this on a smaller budget. You don't even need 22 eps. 14 eps would have made this season perfect and given you time for character nuance, which you are so good at. UGH. LIFE IS UNFAIR! JERICHO ROCKS!

Question for Carol, where is the scene with Jake, Eric and Emily? There were the publicity stills and no scene? Is that only in the alternative version?
I so need more Jake and Hawkins. And Bill and Jimmy. And Gray and wow was I frothing to see John Jackson!!! I love him. PLEEASE keep trying. The boards went NUTS last night with new people coming on frantically trying to find out what to do to save this show.

I saw the show that night and there are so many unanswered questions. Where will Beck and his men go? Does Hawkins make it back to his Family? Does the Columbus government recruit JAke for aditional missions? Are Stanley and Mimi considered leagally married? How does Jericho withstand New Bern again and try to rebuild? I could go on. I watched it again this morning on the internet and was held captive again for the 40 minutes. CBS or Sci-Fi this progam really deserves a chance to tell it's story.

What is next for Jake and Hawkins? Do they drop the bomb off in Texas and say great now I’m going home? Is the bomb enough proof? Will Texas just let them go back, they are after all primary witnesses to all that J&R has done to keep the bomb and everything all covered up. How will Jake and Hawkins get back to Jericho? Isn’t Jericho in the middle of Cheyenne Territory? And even if they did make it back, won’t they be prime targets for J&R? I have many many many more questions. So hopefully there will be a Season 3 on SciFi or something. Because I want to know what happens now….

I absolutely love Jericho and like everyone else hope that it will find a new home. BUT if last nights episode was supposed to answer all the questions, it didn't do very well. For me all it did was open up more questions. I think it would be great if TNT or FX or any network would pick it up and put it on at a decent time and night.

I thought the finale that was shown was well done and tied up loose ends. It does leave room for the show to continue and I'm glad of that. I hope if it moves to another network or cable that I am able to continue watching as I don't get all the cable channels. I love this show so I hope it finds a new home if that is what is needed to keep it on the air!!

Last night's show was great. It was suspenseful. I sincerely hope this show finds another network and comes back for season 3. As much as the U.S. needs to be united right now in the face of all we are going through in the real world, it would be interesting to see a civil war on a t.v. show. I would love to see Cheyenne get what's coming to them.
