It may be a ways off (OK, maybe more than a ways off considering it doesn’t come out until Christmas), but you have to see this teaser trailer for the next of the Star Trek installments. If you haven’t heard about it, Lost’s J.J. Abrams will be directing Star Trek XI, which chronicles the early years of Kirk and company (and, side note, Zachary Quinto from Heroes is playing Spock in this version). Even if you’re not a Trekkie, the scene of the U.S.S. Enterprise being built is pretty awesome.
The trailer hits exactly the right note with the construction of Enterprise. The ship was the real star of the series, a sacred space for human action that transcends the arrival and departure of different players -- sort of like Wrigley Field.
Which one was ZQ? I didn't see any Spock, just a lot of Flashdance sparks. I hope they don't over-hype this movie the way they did withCloverfield. I didn't care for JJ's empty, overcranked MI-3, and after the Cloverfield debacle I'm not yet ready to see anything JJ just now. Trek is fun; why is JJ treating it like it's a Russian post-war propaganda film?
Cloverfield debacle? Breaking the record for a January release opening. $42 million in one weekend for a film that cost $25 million.
The trailer has been out in high def for a week. I guess TV guide wanted to do a little false advertising to get us all to peak and a low res you tube version with no Zachory Quinto as Spock.
