Today’s Lunch-isode Series: Growing Pains

Episode Title: Feet of Clay

Season: 4

Year: 1989

Why we love this episode: We’re gonna have to say that we “heart” this episode to no end — mainly because there’s a twentysomething Brad Pitt guest-starring as the rock-star obsession in little Ben Seaver’s life. But after Pitt starts throwing nasty words around like ‘snotnose brat’ and ‘bozo’ in a fit of rage, the Seavers finally see the rocker for the true Hollywood d-bag that he really is! (See the 10:00-16:00 time mark.)

Your take: What's your fondest memory of the Seaver family?

I was the biggest fan of this show. I loved the episode when Carol wanted to get a nose job and Mike talked her out of it by telling her she was pretty. I also love the episode where Mike, Eddie and Booner (tvguide made me edit this name so I added an 'o') were at the party where there were drugs. Mike left but they stayed. Later at home, Jason told him that Eddie and Booner called and said they didn't go to the bathroom. He asked Mike what that meant and he said, "a lot." And I loved Mike's graduation episode with the "flashbacks" of the kids when they were small. I could go on and on!

My absolute favorite was the one where you find out Mike is dating Julie. You know he's dating someone but you don't know who it is...at the end of the season you find out it's Julie--a forbidden romance with the nanny!!! Then when he proposes to her on the cruise. That was my first real experience with an end-of-the-season cliffhanger.

My favorite episode of all was when Mike starred in "Our Town." I cry every time I see it. I also loved the whole Hawaii mini-series. "I was swept away, no one in the world but you and I..." ahh- great memories!

:-p I still laugh aloud if I see the episode when Ben wanted money and he prayed for some and the person came to the door collecting so he took it = then he decided to collect for himself later. I still think that is funny because when my brother was that age it would have been something he would have done! It makes me smile

Growing Pains was one of the most stupidest shows ever to air on TV.

Both Alan Thicke and Joanna Kerns deserved a much better show than this piece of crap TV.

However, I am grateful that Tracey Gold was able to find success after it, despite the problems she encountered with her weight.

As for Kirk Cameron--he is the biggest jerk. I know we have seen the last of him. Who in his/her right frame of mind put him on this show. The guy is a big a$$ in real life. I cannot believe that he brought his religious opinions to portray his character more rationally.

Uh, excuse me, Mr. Cameron, you were being paid to play a character and act on TV, and to try to sell your religious views to the producers was lame and stupid. After a while there, I was beginning to wonder if Kirk Cameron was really playing himself.

To top it off, he was being paid quite a bit of money just to play himself. That makes me sick. No good Christian (as he calls himself) would do that.

I miss the actor who played Ben. Who was he? Jeremy Miller or something like that? He was so cute and adorable.

Why would anyone with such a low opinion of the show and Kirk Cameron even bother to click on the link to this story?

Besides this was asking what your favorite episode was, not for your negative opinion of it.

Some of my favorites were the ones where Carol was dating Sandy, played by Matthew Perry. I thought they were very cute together and I cry every time I see the episode where he dies. I also love the one where Mike lies to a girl he's going out with, and tells her that Ben is a child prodigy. Why are there no reruns on anymore? Wasn't it on Nick at Nite for a while?

mdjones,

You wrote a very good point. Sorry to have irked you as I did.

Thinking back now, I must admit my favorite episodes were those that centered on the character (cannot recall the name here) who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio. At least two teenage stars rose to stardom from this show. I cannot figure out how I forgot good ole "Leo". The show also had some great guest stars as well.

Back to my point mdjones, I read everything good or bad on this web site and if I have something to say, then I dish it out. I am sorry if my words offended you. I just don't think Growing Pains was high-quality, must-see TV.

I do not know how it lasted seven years, but maybe I should be thankful. Otherwise, we readers may never heard or seen the talented Leonardo DiCaprio on the big screen today.

I forgive you,mdjones.

Ah, Karrahbrooke, I forgot about the Sandy episodes. Yes, I cried and cried when he died.

As for you, tmw, I have no idea what you think I need forgiveness for.
