American Idol Returns Tonight

America Idol judges by Michael Becker/FOX

Fox’s juggernaut of a show is back tonight with its seventh season (and it seems like only yesterday when we were all obsessed with little Kelly Clarkson). Of course, people from around the country came by 43-hour bus trip, lost their jobs and even sacrificed their children (for a few days at least), all for the chance to be a part of the nation's biggest reality competition. Hear from a group of Idol wannabes as they describe what they gave up just to give it a go. Hey, if all else fails, it’s a story to tell your future grandkids (considering the show will probably still be airing then).

Dumb question. Sanjaya stayed on the show because lots of people voted for him. They liked him. Get over it. It's not an audition for the Metropolitan Opera. It's a pop music competition. It's fun; it's touching; sometimes it's exciting; sometimes it's tasteless. Of course I'm going to watch! I wouldn't miss it.
