Ty Pennington Calls DUI Charge "My Wake-up Call"

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington was arrested in Los Angeles on Saturday morning at 12:35 am/PT on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs while driving, TMZ.com reports. Pennington was released two hours later after posting $5,000 bail and giving the holding cell a super-cool "Wild, Wild West" theme.

UPDATE: Pennington said in a statement, "I made an error in judgment. We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call. I also want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused."

Good question, TV Gord. Certainly it appears no one out there is sober. After all his good work, this is not what I wanted to read about Ty.

Goodbye endorsements! Ty shoulda used his money from Sears, Coke, Levis, Macy's, and Swatch to rent a cab... instead of threatening the lives of his fellow citizens that he pretends to love so much on his TV show with his multi-ton weapon that could have critically wounded or paralyzed one of them... Oh, but then I guess he would have built them a house so he thinks it's OK... whattaguy!

My wife and I stopped watching the show (even though it does so much good for the needy) becuase Ty comes off as a complete idiot. Several times we'd say "he's either drunk, high, both, or just a complete idiot." All you have to do is look at his eyes, and it's right there!! I hope he gets help!

Man this is too much...I know I`m not without my own faults, but you`d think that someone that much exposed to the spotlight would take extra care with his extra-cirricular activities. It says the same thing about him as it does about all celebrities making the news for breaking the law, misspeaking or falling out of a critical public's favor: he's human and he made a mistake. If it's a pattern get him help, if not - move on.
