« Today's News: Our Take
Rosie Exiting The View "Is Not My Doing," Says Barbara
Rosie O'Donnell by Heidi Gutman/ABC
Unable to come to a contractual agreement with ABC Daytime, Rosie O'Donnell will conclude her duties as a cohost of The View in mid-June (allowing for at least three more grade-school-caliber back-and-forths with The Donald). "Working with Barbara [Walters], Joy [Behar] and Elisabeth [Hasselbeck] has been one of the highlights of my career, but my needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me," Rosie says in a statement to ABCNews.com. "To all the viewers out there, I just want to say thank you for opening up your hearts and your homes to me this past year. But you can always find me at Rosie.com." (Not recommended, however, for fans of complete sentences.)
ABC Daytime boss man Brian Frons says, "Going in we knew we would have an amazing year with [Rosie], and that anything beyond that would be gravy. And while we've tried to come to terms on a deal that would extend her [stay] on The View, we find ourselves unable to agree on some key elements."
View mother hen Barbara Walters deems the departure an amicable one, saying, "[Rosie] has given the program new vigor, new excitement and wonderful hours of television. I am very sad that ABC Daytime could not reach an agreement with her for a second year. We will all miss Rosie. She remains for me a cherished friend and colleague."
UPDATE: On Wednesday's broadcast, Barbara stressed that she, as View creator/coexecutive producer, played no role in the talks, saying, "This is not my doing... not my choice." Joy quipped that the news had Donald Trump wondering, "How can I resuscitate The Apprentice now?" while Elisabeth repeatedly called Ro a "catalyst," all but tipping off the latest entry on her Word-a-Day calendar.
Who will fill Ro's sensible shoes? Is Ann Coulter free? Walters says that with the news so fresh, no thought has been given to O'Donnell's successor.
Will you miss Rosie? Vote here. Is it time for The View to add a male cohost? Vote here.

Fresh from ABCNews.com: "ABC Daytime has been unable to come to a contractual agreement with The View co-host Rosie O'Donnell. As a result, her duties on the show will come to an end mid-June.

Thank god! Maybe I will start watching the show again. I used to love The View, but I can't stand watching/listening to Rosie...she grosses me out!

Now I will go back to not watching it. She was the only reason I tuned in.

I will always be a fan of Rosie's. I think she will be better off away from The View - that show brought her too much bad publicity. It wasn't her I think it was the show. Rosie was the best in her own show and that's where she is meant to be.

Who really cares about The View without Rosie?

I will be taking it off of my TiVo, her banter with Joy was the only reason I've been tuning in.

It is about time!!!! I stopped watching The View when she arrived on the scene, even though I had watched daily prior to. She may have increased the viewership, but I don't think it was based on her likability but on the controversial things she said. The first time I caught a glimpse of the show with her on it, an honest mistake, I swear.....she was referring to the show as "My Show". What an egotistical pig. GOOD RIDDANCE!!

I have to really question Barbara Walters' and ABC's mental capacity for hiring Rosie.
Rosie was just over the top with some of her opinions (Miss USA, 9/11).
Let's hope The View gets a better co-host. And please, let's not joke about having Ann Coulter on the show... Sheesh!
Bring back Lisa Ling!!

I imagine the buzz and ratings will suffer a great deal with the loss of Rosie. She must have been asking for a lot of ABC let go of her like this.

I will miss Rosie speaking up for those of us who strongly agree with most of what she says, but don't have a national voice. As much as I love Joy, I doubt I'll continue watching the view, because Elisabeth is so annoying. I wish Rosie well in her endeavors and know she'll find another niche in which to leave her indelible mark. Rosie does so much for causes, women's and HUMAN causes and she's irreplaceable.

It was only a matter of time before her increaingly unstable mouthiness made her either more of a liability for ABC - or - she felt like her voice was being silenced by a controlling network.
She can be replaced. The show will be fine.

She WAS great on her show - she also seemed to be happy then too, unless it was all for show and the real Rosie is the one we're seeing now. I don't like THIS Rosie - she is just too negative, and not just on The View. Do you ever see her smile anymore, or say something that isn't driven by anger? Her children are healthy, she has a loving companion, and she's financially set for life. I don't get it.
