Isaiah Washington "Collars" His First Post-scandal Gig

Isaiah Washington is set to play a priest returning to the Catholic high school where he was once sexually abused in the indie drama The Least of These, his first film role since his gay slur directed at Grey's Anatomy cast mate T.R. Knight landed him in the headlines. The film's writer-director, Nathan Scoggins, tells the Hollywood Reporter he approached Washington after reading about how he was being professionally snubbed in the wake of the brouhaha, and sees this opporunity as "part of [Isaiah] moving forward and making restitution" for his actions.

Oh, fantastic. Will he be approaching Don Imus to play the abuser?

Well, I'm going to echo T.R.'s emotion from this weekend's GLAAD awards: Let's put this behind us and look to the future. Enough with the Isaiah-bashing already; let's move on.

From what I've read, it sounds like the gay slurs were just a small part of him generally being an a$$hole, and a pain to work with. I wouldn't spend time with him if I didn't have to.

So he's playing a Catholic priest? Bold move on his part to play a gay charcter. I wonder who they're casting as the alter boy? :-D

"Bold move on his part to play a gay charcter." It doesn't say that his character will be gay, only that he was abused and is now a priest.

I'm glad he's being professionally snubbed! He should have been fired just like Don Imus was but noooooo. He wasn't. I bet Sharpton and his crew would have been after TR if he had used the N word against Isaiah!

Not to mention the priesthood has a problem with having pedophiles in their ranks. There are probably many homosexuals as well, but those aren't the ones taking liberties with altar boys. The Catholic church keeps shooting itself in the foot with it's lack of oversight and conscious. This new pope seems to be trying to move the church back to the dark ages. God help them all.

Actually, I see no evidence of him being professionally snubbed (he's still on GA AND he won the ironic IMAGE award from the NAACP, which is a disgrace).

As far as I'm concerned, a written statement simulating an apology--which was almost definitely written by a publicist--does not come close to atoning for his sins, and Chinita731, we who are waiting for some kind of real contrition from him for the way he treated TR Knight have no intention of "moving on".

I question why so many blind sycophantic fans are "moving on" so easily. It makes me wonder what other atrocious behavior they will tolerate.

If a director of an "independent" film wanting to add some built-in infamous publicity to his film is the best work Washington can get, he does, indeed, seem to be snubbed. My guess is his career is permanently stalled. By even the best accounts, he's a jerk and a journeyman actor at best with millions of people actively loathing him. He'll pop up in other "independent" films, but GA is most likely the zenith of his career.

Matt: shouldn't Washington's hate speech be characterized as an "anti-gay" slur? A "gay slur" seems to say that the act of being presumed gay is an insult, which it isn't, because being gay isn't a bad thing. For instance, it's "anti-Semitic slur", not "Semitic slur". Clearly, Washington was definitely being anti-gay.

The Protestant church is having its problems with pedophile ministers, too. 20/20 did a segment on them last Friday!

Sad as it is, we have to mistrust anyone who chooses a career or an avocation that puts them in contact with kids. Coaches, clergymen, surrogate father-figures...they can appear as nice as can be...but, you can't let them lull you into a false sense of security.

In light of the horrible massacre which happened yesterday at VT, it is difficult to read these hate-filled messages. I hope Isaiah's movie will do well and he will be able to grow from this bad experience and continue to do excellent work.

cheap shot, JazzWorld. Our opinions on IW's disgraceful behavior have nothing to do with yesterday's tragedy, and you are using it in a very inappropriate way, in my opinion.

The large majority of Catholic priests are NOT gay and NOT pedophiles. I guess we will have to be suspect of every male teacher, too!?!- C2
