Big Brother Is Back and More Twisted Than Ever
Julie Chen in the living room of the Big Brother: 8 house by Cliff Lipson/CBS
I've so missed Julie Chen and her slightly monotone voice telling the houseguests to expect the unexpected and almost quaintly repeating all of the mundane information. It's no wonder that so many Big Brother fans call her the Chenbot, but I think they mean it affectionately. I mean, I pick on Julie as much as anyone, but I can't wait to see what she'll wear on the Thursday night episodes (she was rockin' that red dress tonight!) and how she'll tell the houseguests what new twist is coming their way.
Anyway, enough Julie chatter, let's get down to the good stuff: a nasty new twist, a puppet master and really cool decor.
The enemy twist: Eleven strangers are tossed into the house, but there are three people who share some sort of messed-up past. While it's not the most original idea (hey, I remember the season with the exes), I am a big fan of anything that makes the people in the house totally uncomfortable. I just wish that frenemies Carol and Jessica actually seemed like they had a beef with each other. I mean, I half-expected Carol to reveal that Jessica stole her lip gloss or something ridiculously stupid like that. Could they really have fought over $5? I would have at least imagined that their tiff was over a boy or something. At least Dustin and Joe seem to have a real reason to despise each other. Joe claims that Dustin gave him gonorrhea. Joe in return apparently decided to destroy all of Dustin's friendships. I give Dustin some credit for not throttling him when he saw him. The houseguests seemed to side with the outspoken Joe; it will be interesting to see how keeping the three players hidden for the first part of the game will change their fate. The dueling duo I'm most excited to watch is Evil Dick (don't yell at me, this Dr. Will wannabe is calling himself that) and his estranged daughter, Daniele. I really want to know why Daniele hasn't spoken to her father in two years. There are some interesting e-mails up on the Internet that are supposedly things he sent to her or about her, but so far both of them have remained mum on the topic. Hmmm... almost makes me want to stay up and watch the After Dark feed.
The puppet master: I love this idea. Giving America the chance to control a player's actions is kind of a brilliant idea. Over the course of last season's All-Stars, it was hysterical to watch the houseguests' reactions when they found out that Janelle was the one that the fans kept voting for. I think telling slightly dopey Eric who to vote for could give him an advantage of knowing who to trust in this game that no one has ever had before. I think that if this is ever revealed to the other players, the you-know-what is going to hit the fan... and I can't wait to see that. Maybe it will make some of the nontwist players actually stand out in my mind. Even HOH winner Kail barely made an impression.
The cool decor: I know there are some fans who aren't in love with the photos, but I dig this truly trippy Alice in Wonderland-style house. I just hope that the topsy-turvy decor is a clue to yet another twist this summer.... Is Walrus showing up? What about Mike Boogie as a hip, smokin' caterpillar? Chicken George and Howie as Tweedledee and Tweedledum? Or is this house full of its own strange characters? Julie would say to "expect the unexpected," so I guess we'll just have to wait to find out.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you've got spoilers from the live feeds or After Dark or your own Internet research, please post them here instead.

Ah thoughts... I just posted on your other post, but here they are again...
I already don't like Joe. There's just something that makes me think he's vindictive and difficult to get along with. Having said this then, I totally side with Dustin. For now at least. It has, after all, been only one episode.
As for America's Player, I LOVE it. Even before they told us it was Eric, I already liked him. So I was quite happy to find out it was him.
Definitely want to see how these rivals interact with one another. And Julie is back! Didn't she look weirdly thin to you? Anyways, that's all.

I know the show premiered tonight but it was obviously prerecorded and they wereshowing previews of what is to come. When did the house guest actually enter the house?
Too much in this episiode to keep everyone straight. Dick's daughter does look like a skinny Anna Nicole Smith.
The whole 5 dollars and high school girls are beyotches enemie story seemed lame compared to an estranged father daughter and the gay guys dueling break up stories and obvious hatred. hard to believe they were ever a couple. Too funny though when the sequestered one said his ex had on his shirt and that he was wearing the ex's shirt. LOL

After Eric was revealed as America's player it made way more sense that he was trying to throug the competition to avoid having a target on his back. How evr he sucks at sabatoge so maybe not the bes choice for merica's playr LOL I thought Nick would end up being America's man.

The first show didn't impress me! I too like the house's decor, but none of the players made that much of an impression on me - I mean like BORING - so far! Like the twist of the three "enemies" though hope there's more than meets the eye to the two girls since it seems like nothing much happened between the two of them. And the puppet master? Only thing interesting about him is that the viewers will pull the strings - wonder how. Hoping it grows on me as the weeks go on. Now I'm just disappointed that I didn't care about it one way or the other.

Anyone else think Evil Dick looks like Tommy Lee with all those tats and wild hair?

My fellow posters have really hit on the interesting points already. Yep, I thought Julie looked awfully thin, and I'd have to disagree with you, Angel, about her "rocking that dress". The dress might be ok, but she was too thin.
I'm not too excited to see the father/daughter story play out. It makes me uncomfortable already. The two guys are ok, but everyone's right. The two girls' story with jr. high rivalries is b-o-r-i-n-g.
As for not knowing who is who, etc., it's that way with the beginning of every reality show, so maybe by next week we'll get to know some of them better.
Don't know why you're not doing the other blog, Angel, but I'll follow you here as long as there are NO spoilers whatsoever. In other words, the other one is for spoilers and this won't be, right? I kind of prefer the other way around, but heck, I'm just happy BB is back!!
And that supposedly live broadcast tonight? What was that? Was it live, taped or everyone faking it? Because they had to have met before tonight if it was live. Otherwise where did the previews come from? How odd was that?

Yes lawler1976, I think that Dick looks like Tommy Lee. The hair, and the tats he could defianlty be Tommy Lee twin. I wonder if Evil Dick's memeber is the same as Tommy Lee's member.

My only problem with BB after dark is that they are keeping panning over to Daniele alot........like she has something interesting to say. There is more video shots of her than anybody else.

Don't like Joe. The VD comment was uncalled for. Also, he then destroyed Dustin's life and friends? Not cool. No excuse. Be a bigger person and move on. Don't like Kail. Hopefully, she'll open her mind, but I don't like her attitude, and she's lying so that people think she "doesn't need the money." Sorry but compared to most of them, she doesn't. I also didn't like her, "we run the town" comment. Don't like the model gal, Jen. Seems very shallow and self absorbed. I've also heard that she has been "coached" by Mike Boogie, and may be wearing "Chill Town" shirts. Ugh. Eric reminded me of a young Adam Sandler. I picked him to be the mole, and I'm glad it's him. Should be fun. EDick seems ok, but I don't like the fact that he's ok with relationship with his daughter. That bothers me some. Jessica...not a fan. She seems shallow as well. Her rival seemed to be less bitchy about their situation, but we'll see going forward. The rest...too early to tell.

I have to agree with the other poster: Julie Chen was NOT rockin' that red dress because she was too bony. Not a good look.
As for the players, what was up with Joe's claim of gonerrhea?! That was not cool. It will be interesting this season to see how the Joe/Dustin interaction plays out.
I think the father/daughter story will end happily if the daughter doesn't get catty about being evicted before her father. Without hearing the full story, it sounds as if both contributed to the fall out.
Finally, with America's Player, I don't know if I'll like it. It will depend on what tasks America wants Eric to do.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the season, although I'll stick to only watching BB's final 10 minutes of eviction shows. The show's other days are often lame.

Hmmmmmm.... So far not impressed with the group as a whole. But like always I am sure I will have a few favorites after a couple of shows. Just from last night I was totally annoyed with Jessica (she was the girl hidden upstairs right?) and her 'she owed me $5 from high school' valley girl talk. Also Joe got on my nerves after awhile with his over the top gay self and his ex Dustin wasn't too far behind, even though I like him better. I would have killed him for the gonorrhea outing. Too bad Valtrex (or is that for herpes?) didn't plug in a commercial after that chat. I am liking Eric as the Americas Player and think it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Does anyone know yet how that is going to work? Do we have multiple choice as to what to make him do or can you just make comments on what you would like to see? I Tivo'd BB After Dark so there goes another 3 hours of my life but I am sure that will have some interesting bits. My top picks so far as guys is Eric or Nick and girls is Danielle - of course I am sure that will change as we go along.

Watching the late feed - they have been there for 5 days by the time they started the After Dark last night -- I feel really bad for Danielle, she seems like the most uncomfortable person there. The cheerleaders really don't seem to dislike one another at all.
These people are one exceptionally boring cast. There isn't a personality that pops off the screen to make it at all interesting. Eric is the only person even trying to be friendly with everyone. Jen acts like an out of work model and seems the snobbiest of the girls but she is easily the most beautiful. Hopefully she can make things interesting because she is clearly the bitch in that house. She so wants to be Janelle its sick!

Now, keep in mind I didn't get home until eight thirty, so I was kind of lost about some stuff (I don't know the 'enemies' side of the story) but what if the two girls are in fact best friends or maybe just sister sorority people who made up some lame story?
Anyway, Eric is a really good idea..

If gonerrhea causes huge nips, then Joe got a bad case of it. Those things are bigger than the mushrooms they were riding on.
