Ricky Paull Goldin Scrubs In as AMC's Jake Martin
Ricky Paull Goldin by Jim Spellman/WireImage.com
Well that didn't take long. Ricky Paull Goldin, who it was only recently announced is exiting Guiding Light when his deal runs out later this month, has been cast on All My Children in the contract role of Dr. Jake Martin.
Jake, of course, is the younger brother of Tad, and in his last two incarnations was played by Michael Lowry and J. Eddie Peck's impeccable hair. Jake's love interests have included Liza, Gillian and (of course) Greenlee.
Goldin, who cut his daytime teeth on Another World back in the day, is expected to make his AMC debut by the end of April. — Matt Webb Mitovich

This is just like what happened with Laura Wright. They reach a stalemate in contract renegotiations, and they expect them to come crawling back later.
Nope! When you're letting go of a talented, dynamic lead, they're gonna get scooped up and your fans are gonna be PISSED.
Man, I hope they don't kill Gus off.

Too cool!
I know he'll be great. He's sexy as hell and he knows how to act. I hope it shows us more Joe and Ruth Martin too! I just hope James and Barbara give him a good story.
He probably got tired of the crappy writing on GL. Gus and Harley are the $ couple on that show and they broke them up and haven't had a scene together in several months. Maybe it's time for HW David Kreizman to be relieved of his duties. Yes, he was a hell of a lot better than who replaced (Ellen Weston and her Maryanne Carruthers Crap) but that show's writing is really taking a beating. Jonathan and Bill's returns are the only good stories going.

The best part is that he and Michael Knight will be SO FUNNY together. Both are great comic actors. Nice that someone is keeping this blog updated more often!!

Good for Ricky Paul....bad for GL! It is a business, after all. I don't blame him for leaving a crappy storyline for greener pastures.

UGH, this makes me sad. I liked the character of Gus. Though I can't blame RPG for bailing ship. He's in a ridiculous storyline lately that he must be embarrassed to actually have to act out. Not at all Gus-like. I don't want him re-cast either. Maybe Gus can take Natalia out the door with him... ride off into the sunset to live hapily ever after.
breakdown mentioned Laura Wright. That move made me sad too. I still haven't warmed up to "NuCassie" at all. Laura was perfect for that part and was a tough act to follow. She had that firey, don't f--- with me attitude like Reva's little sister should have. NuCassie is just bleh...
C'mon GL, lets get back to some character-driven storytelling. Josh a minister? Really? Harley being a weak-willed, boyfriend stealer? Really? Its starting to get to the point where the only characters I enjoy watching anymore are the evil Will (Edmund's Mini-Me) (great casting there, BTW) and the most awesome Ashley.

I used to be a huge GL fan, but I agree that the writing is totally lacking. I wish they would make some changes. I had to follow Laura Wright to GH and stop watching GL. I think RPG is making a great move to AMC.

EWWW! Like I didn't already have enough reasons to NOT watch AMC (I was a 20+ year fan until a few years ago), now they bring this greasy, no-talent loser in to play a member of a core family?
I tried, I REALLY tried, to start watching again when Jesse miraculously returned from the dead a few weeks ago. However, a casting decision like this just makes me realize what a lost cause AMC is.
Congratulations, Brian Frons. Your mission to destroy a once-great soap is almost complete. Expect cancellation news momentarily.

Man, GL is so stupid!!! Gus was a huge part of the soap's allure - he is hot, hot, hot!!!! Gus and Harley were a couple made in soap heaven and what the writers have turned them into - backstabbing, cheating weak individuals - was a great disservice to the characters.

I liked that original Jake -- that hairy Michael Lowry! He was a manly man. Mmmm mmmmmm....
I am not into watching Ricky Paul do the wild thang with Greenlee. He is too old for her.
I have a random question... I am not sure why I care but... why is the writer Matt Mitovich or he's Matt Webb Mitovich depending on what article you read? It keeps on changing!
Maybe he can't decide whether to do the three name actorish thing like Ricky Paul Goldin or go shorter with the first name, last name thing?
WOW girlfriend TRULY must be bored at work if I have time to think about this! LOL!!!!

Dare2B, it could be worse... he could be "M. Webb Mitovich". You know, like J. Eddie Peck (above), G. Gordon Liddy, E. Howard Hunt, or even J. Howard Marshall.

I will miss Gus, he and Harley were great together....Not with Natalia or Olivia. And I agree with previous message about Cassie, Laura Wright was great. Instead of getting rid of these people why not send off the "Bullies" You know, Alan and Doris?

LOL Rachelscribbes
blossom: Alan should go BACK to prison for all the evil things he has done. i remember when this version of Alan first came on and he was claustrophobic about jail. he kept picturing the walls closing in on him. i want him back in jail.
Doris and her daughter Ashley (or is she Ashlee?) are played out too.
So is Josh being with Cassie. GROSS.
