Noelle Beck Hopes ATWT's Audience Is Patient

Effective May 8, Noelle Beck is the new Lily Snyder on As the World Turns. The actress — most recently of Cashmere Mafia — will replace fan icon Martha Byrne, whose last episode airs April 22. Byrne quit the soap in a volcanic contract dispute, but she's handling the transition like a pro.

"I received an incredible bouquet of flowers from Martha on my first day of work," Beck tells me. "To have her support makes me feel great. She's one very classy lady." Beck is no stranger to daytime suds — she spent nine years as Trisha on Loving — but the mother of three has lately stuck to recurring roles (the conniving Cilla on Cashmere, Tommy's almost-lover, almost-sister Mariel on Rescue Me).

"We had to take a family vote about the ATWT offer," says Beck, who is married to hotshot New York restaurateur Eric Petterson. "Everybody said, ‘Go back to work!' I thought they were going to say, ‘Please, don't work full-time!' I'm such a crazy soccer mom; I think they want me off the field." As for Byrne's controversial exit, Beck says, "I can't get involved with the politics. Hopefully, the audience will be patient and supportive of the change. If not," she adds with a laugh, "I'm back on the soccer field!" — Michael Logan

Good Luck, Noelle! You've walked into a very awkward position and I don't envy you.

I really hope viewers give the actress a fair shake.

It's going to take time (try at least a year) for the fans to adjust but good luck Noelle!

I hope the fans remember you're just an actress taking a job and if it wasn't you then it would be someone else.
The blame for Martha Byrne's dismissal is at CBS' feet.
This means you Goutman and Bloom!

And what the hell - why is TV Guide using that same photo of Noelle they used last time? Is there not a better pic they could find?!
Please put down the nail polish and find one.

I think it is at P&G feet more then CBS for the way Byrne was handled.

Well whoever the hell it is they should be ashamed and not working in daytime television because they are out of touch with what viewers want.

It's a travesty that ATWT wasn't able to keep Byrne--but I can't imagine a better recast than Noelle Beck. I'm sure she'll do just fine. I think she and Jon Hensley will have great chemistry.

I wouldn't worry about Noelle's transition into the role. Obviously, the ideal would have been to keep Martha. But I have to say, this recast was the best fit I've seen in years.
Any chance we could get Robert Tyler (ex-Trucker) on board as a hunked-up Caleb Snyder to stir up trouble between Holden and Lily?? LOL:^O

RE: "Chemistry" between Beck and Jon Hensley.

That won't be happening as it has already been reported he is also leaving the show!

^^We haven't heard one thing about Hensley leaving the show. As far as I know, he just signed a new contract recently.

It broke my heart to watch that last scene between Holden and Lily but the way he said "come back to us", left me hoping P&G will see the error of their ways and Martha will return, However, let's face it - in the midst of all that's really wrong in this world today, I think even Martha would say "for cryin' out loud, get over it, it's just a TV show." Life will go on in Oakdale, just as it will in my living room! Let's give the new lady a chance.

I am sorry but I love Martha and nobody will be able to replace her. It is ridiculous to replace someone who had the role from the start and for how many years, 20?

Sorry, nothing personnel to the new actress, but I won't give anybody a chance on that role, it would be giving CBS a blessing on their asinine treatment of Martha, and I just won't do it!

I wish Noelle a bunch of luck. The P&G people as most Executives in the Daytime business have become extremely out of touch with the viewers. In P&G's case the viewers are the consumers. So my remedy is to continue to watch the show but not buy any of their products. Since they "know" me so well they'd have to know this would be my reaction to Martha's ouster!
