Daytime Emmys Aiming for Golden Globes Energy

What ingredients go into a successful TV awards show? Hmm...fancy gowns, lots of energy, poignant speeches...how about free-flowing alcohol?

In an effort to mimic the unpredictable nature of the Golden Globe Awards, attendees at this evening's Daytime Emmy Awards (ABC, 8 pm/ET) will be treated to an open bar. They'll also be sitting at dinner theater-style round tables.

"Usually everyone is sitting in a row," The View panelist and Daytime Emmys cohost Sherri Shepherd told the AP. "This year, it'll be like a wedding. We're also going to do something so that fans will be able to get a view of what's going on at the different tables."

Celebs will find digital video cameras at their tables to capture the evening's events. Video will be uploaded to SOAPnet.com throughout the evening so that viewers can follow all the fun and antics of their favorite daytime stars.

Shepherd cohosts tonight's ceremony with All My Children hunk Cameron Mathison. "Liquor is always an added bonus," said Shepherd. "But Cameron and I won't get to drink 'cause we'll be working." — J.R. Whalen

Every year I looked for to the Daytime Emmys, and I hope this year's show will be far better than it has been, but I seriously doubt it.

To begin with, there were many disappointments of who did NOT get nominated. Those that did, well, it wasn't your first time except a small few. I just hope and pray that previous nominees and winners in their respective categories do not win again. Let's see some new blood this year.

For example, in the lead actor category all the nominees have been nominated and won before except one truly amazing actor.

I am extremely rooting for and would really love to see Thaao Penghlis from Days of Our Lives win this year. One of the scenes he submitted as a clown was quite scary, especially since he performed mostly as a mime with very little spoken words.

Mr. Penghlis has been ignored so many times in the past that I am quite touched that he received an nomination. Winning it would be extra, extra sweet icing on the cake.

Good Luck Thaao!!!!! You certainly deserve it!!!!!

Nothing is more annoying and boring than watching presenters trying to vamp things up.How about just showing clips of the nominated shows and performers. I'd like to see clips for acting, directing, writing and best show to see exactly what the judges find so outstanding.

Holy cow, Tyra Banks just won an Emmy! I cannot wait to see what Joel McHale is going to say on his show. Ha!

I don't watch soap operas, but I'm liking the show so far. Sherri and Cameron did great on that opening skit. It was funny. Good for them!

I really enjoyed the show and it was sorta fast moving and ended on time. Great job Sherry and Cameron!

Chatty, I thought the same thing! First off, Tyra winning an Emmy??? Have they seen the show? Seriously?
And then I thought about Joel McHale from The Soup! I will have to make sure to watch The Soup this coming Friday to see his reaction.
And why such a fuss about the tables? They used to use those before at soap awards.
