Daytime Emmy Nominations Feeling Very Restless
Jeanne Cooper by Robert Voets, Peter Bergman by Robert Voets, Tracey Bregman by Tony Esparza/CBS
Nominations for the 35th annual Daytime Emmy awards were announced Wednesday, and CBS' daytime lineup has the early lead with 51 total nods — or for comparison purposes 12.75 nominations per soap. ABC netted 27 noms for its three sudsers, while NBC's Days of Our Lives and Passions amassed 10 bids between 'em.
Among the noteworthy tallies, The Young and the Restless collected 11 acting nods, including at least one contender in every race, while Days made an atypically strong showing, scoring four acting nominees. Kudoscast host ABC, meanwhile, may want to instead broadcast a test pattern, as All My Children, General Hospital and One Life to Live netted just three acting nods combined. That said, both GH and OLTL are vying in both the outstanding drama series and writing contests.
The major races:
Lead Actress Maura West (Carly, ATWT) Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL) Nicole Forester (Cassie, GL) Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R) Jeanne Cooper (Katherine, Y&R)
Lead Actor David Canary (Adam/Stuart, AMC) Thaao Penghlis (Tony/Andre, Days) Anthony Geary (just Luke, GH) Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R) Christian Le Blanc (Michael, Y&R)
Supporting Actress Kelley Menighan Hensley (Emily, ATWT) Heather Tom (Kate, B&B) Judi Evans (Bonnie/Adrienne, Days) Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) Tracey Bregman (Lauren, Y&R)
Supporting Actor Trent Dawson (Henry, ATWT) Daniel Cosgrove (Bill, GL) Brian Kerwin (Charlie, OLTL) Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R) Greg Rikaart (Kevin, Y&R)
Younger Actress Jennifer Landon (Gwen, ATWT) Rachel Melvin (Chelsea, Days) Vail Bloom (Heather, Y&R) Emily O'Brien (Jana, Y&R) Tammin Sursok (Colleen, Y&R)
Younger Actor Van Hansis (Luke, ATWT) Jesse Lee Soffer (Will, ATWT) Darin Brooks (Max, Days) Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL) Bryton McClure (Devon, Y&R)
Writing B&B, GH, GL, OLTL, Y&R
Directing AMC, B&B, GL, OLTL
Drama Series GH, GL, OLTL, Y&R (Vote for your pick to win here.)
Whose nods are you applauding, and which have you scratching your head silly?

There are so many glaring omissions that I don't know where to start. Tuc Watkins, BRADFORD ANDERSON, John Paul Lavosier, Steve Burton, Maurice Benard, Laura Wright, Julie Marie Berman, Josh Duhon, Kelly Monaco, Tyler Christopher, Rebecca Herbst, Catherine Hickland, Katherine Kelly Lang (who never gets nominated!!!), Kathy Brier, Kristen Alderson... I know there's more, but I can't think of them right now. I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW.

The daytime Emmys leave a lot to be desired. Some of these nominations make complete sense and others are just ridiculous. The Younger Leading Lady..all the Y&R nominees dont derserve it. not when we have Kristen Storm, Julie Berman, Starr(OLTL), Lily(Y&R)..not Heather, Jana and Collen you have got to be kidding. Heather Tom for supporting actress what has she done since she's been on B&B(nothing). Why is everyone upset that Nicole Forester was nominated for the role of Cassie and not Laura Wright. Laura has been off canvas since 2005. They really need to rework this process b/c its a joke.

Y&R for best show?! Yeah right. And piss runs uphill.
2007 was the first year where huge chunks of that show became unwatchable. Thanks Lynn Latham.
Don't waste your time and stay home on June 20th to watch it live kids.
I am happy some Days actors got the love. They won't win but I'm glad they're on the list.
One Life To Live had a great year (Thank you Ron Carlivati) and it's a shame more of their actors aren't on here.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for Jeanne Cooper, Kelley M. Hensley, Jennifer Landon OR Rachel Melvin, Tom Pelphrey OR Van Hansis.
Agnes Nixon for the Lifetime Achievement Award!

Torin you are so right I even forgot some of the people you mentioned. I thought for sure Kathy Brier for the scenes when she had to give up the baby and who can forget Catherine Hickland's breakdown performance. I'm just so puzzled. How did they come up with some of the nominees?

Applauding:
Lead Actress--everyone but NF and JC for Lead Actress. NF is instant fast-forward and has never been right for Cassie. JC is flawless but hasn't had the material for a nomination for her last 3 nominations or so.
Lead Actor--PB and CL are always strong. I think CL is a better actor, but PB had better material.
Supporting Actress--GT could read a take-out menu and be mesmerizing. I totally would be ok w/her winning again.
Supporting Actor--pretty bored overall, but I think I'm pulling for DC and GR. They are very interesting actors who always do good work.
Younger Actress--this category is a JOKE this year. Jennifer Landon, please win your 3rd in a row.
Younger Actor--love VH, JS, and TP, but TP by far had the best material w/Tammy's death. I really am pulling for him.
Writing--Y&R
Directing--GL; maybe if they will win they will go back to their traditional style!
Show--Y&R
Scratching my head:
Days getting nominations. Who told the voters NBC still has daytime shows? I was shocked (and thrilled at some variation even though I don't like Days!)
Supporting Actress: TB; think she's great, but what did Lauren do last yr.? She must have submitted the Clear Springs collapse.
Younger Actress: all the girls from Y&R. I don't even know what else to say. All a waste.
Younger Actor: BM...I guess the voters bought the crappy meningitis story, even if the viewers didn't. But I guess I shouldn't fault BM, I think he's a fine actor.
Writing: GL
Directing: How could Y&R be omitted from this? It's the only show I even feel puts time into their directing choices.
Show: GL; the industry just stop rewarding this show when it's at 1 of its lowest creative points ever.

Any major award nomination for Guiding Light has me very confused! That show has fallen so far from the show that it used to be, that I really can't even watch it anymore. The low-budget filming is just a joke. I feel like I'm watching someone's boring home video. It's really sad, in my opinion, and unless they make some radical changes, I predict this show won't be on past its 2009 contract.

WTF!! ABC stars were almost completely shut out!! I smell conspiracy!! And what's with the lead actor nominations, haven't those geezers been nominated at least 10 times a piece? It's time for them to step aside and let some of the more talented actors get a chance at the gold.

Tyler Christopher did amazing work in the scenes after Emily's death and I am sad to see he was excluded from this year's nominations. He was one of the reasons why I watched GH (briefly) again after Guza and Co decided to kill off yet another Quartermaine.

Two names and two names only, LAURA WRIGHT and KIRSTEN STORMS from GH. How could they overlook them. Laura Wright acts circles around the stuff they give her, and if she could enter the material from the last couple of weeks, she would have been a cinch. Kirsten Storms blew me away with her scenes, when her sister was murdered by the text message killer, AKA Diego Alcazar. What a mistake!

the daytime emmys are a joke no one cares to say cbs soaps have all the good actors is laughable. to omit abc has more to do with who was veiwing the tapes then the talent . why dose daytime continue to kill its self with one stupid mistake after another. in five years at this rate the medium will be gone. its has not been a good emmy show since susan luccci won. i think all abc actors should boycott in protest , i know the pubic will .

Yeah for GL. Sure, it's on a low, but bringing itself up...Some work on the new format? Sure. Great cast! No Robert Newman or Kim Zimmer nominations? But Nicole Forester? Interesting nomination. I will watch the show until it (or I) cease to exist. It's one good constant viewing habit. May the Light Shine!

This list was posted on the IMDB Days board; we were all shocked that anyone from Days got nominated.
I think Rachel Melvin certainly deserves the nomination and I'd be happy to see her win (don't know her chances, since I don't know the other actress' in her category, but she has done good work in the last year.)
I'm not sure what to make of Darin Brookes being nominated, he hasn't wowed me since he's been on, but Max also hasn't had much in the way of story; other than grossing us out by his constant need to "keep it in the family"
Thaao/Tony's nomination is the biggest head scratcher. I'm a huge fan of Thaao, but lead actor? Tony Dimera? That's a supporting role at best. If anyone deserved a lead acotr nom from Days, it shold have been Drake Hogestyn; his death scene sould have lokced that up. But then again, they overlooked Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell and their stellar performance during Zack's death storyline. Just goes to show this isn't really about how well these people can act...
