Daytime Emmy Drama! GH Star Collapses on the Red Carpet
John Ingle courtesy ABC
Sexy soap stars weren't the hottest thing about red-carpet duty at Friday's Daytime Emmys! TVGuide.com's soap guru (that's me) was melting in a black tuxedo as the temperature outside soared into the 90s.
Unfortunately, the sun's heat overwhelmed veteran daytime star John Ingle — aka Edward Quartermaine of ABC's General Hospital — who collapsed and had to be carried away in an ambulance.
"After a day of rushing around and not eating Friday afternoon, I felt dizzy as I entered the foyer of the Kodak Theater for the Daytime Emmys," the 79-year-old Ingle tells TVGuide.com. "Before I knew it, I was looking up at the paramedics, who soon took me to a local hospital for overnight observation.
"I was able to go home the following day after the doctors gave me a thorough examination with a clean bill of health," Ingle reassures us. "I appreciate everyone's concern and I look forward to heading back to the GH set on Thursday."
Thanks for the update, Mr. Ingle. Stay cool!

Oh my goodness!
I love that actor... glad he is okay.
Who knew the red carpet was so dangerous??? I would think the only danger is forgetting to get your feet done (Pedicure baby!) and then putting your nasty foot up on that Soapnet "Shoe Cam" LOL

I am so glad that he is feeling better. I really enjoy him playing "Edward" and was very glad when he left DOOL to return to GH.

Was it the heat, or did he possibly see Alan's ghost? Glad to hear he's doing better. As much as I enjoyed Jed Allen in the role, it's great to have John Ingle back where he belongs.

LOL Dare and TV Gord. Ya gotta laugh at life sometimes, right?
I agree with miwi98... GH makes better use of Ingle than Days did. He'll always be Edward Q to me!

I'm so sorry to hear about Mr. Ingle's collapse! As a former Cali resident, I can attest that the summer sun can be BRUTAL out there. I can relate to John Ingle's collapse because it is similar to an incident that I experienced when I was in the Army in California's scorching Mojave Desert! I wish Mr. Ingle a speedy recovery. I have always read that he is a sweetheart of a man, kind, gentle, and a real class act. I imagine that all this was very embarrassing for him. I really feel for Mr. Ingle and hope that he is feeling much better now. "GH" would not be the same without our wonderfully cantakerous Mr. Q!
Sidenote: Jed Allan, who took over the role of Edward Quartermaine while John Ingle was playing Mickey Horton on "Days", was mentioned here earlier. I have an idea...how great would Jed Allan be as the new Mickey on "Days"? I know that Jed Allan was previously on "Days" as Don Craig years ago...but that hasn't stopped the show from bringing back Josh Taylor (Roman, ex-Chris Kositchek), Wayne Northrop (ex-Alex North, ex-Roman, and Judi Evans (Adrienne, ex-Bonnie) as different characters. I think that Suzanne Rogers and Jed Allan would make a great couple. He's in the right age range...and it would be nice to see Maggie in her marriage with Mickey again. Since John Clarke is definitely retired, why not hire Jed Allan??

I was sooo worried when I heard of his collapse, I'm so glad he's ok & coming back to work. GH wouldn't be the same without him!

Thank goodness he's alright. In everything I've ever read, he's come across as a great guy and a class act.
And I must say, a bit selfishly, that GH is falling apart as it is...losing Edward (again) would be a serious blow.
But heh, isn't it great that Stuart Damon has had more dialogue in his few months as a ghost than his past few years as a "live" Alan!

I really thought I saw Mr. Ingle sitting in the front by Jeanne Cooper. I guess not. Best wishes Mr. Ingle! We love you!

Shameless plug alert, suds fans!
As long as you're doing your last-minute holiday shopping anyway, I just thought I'd remind ya that my book, The Q Guide to Soap Operas, makes a great soapy stocking stuffer.
FYI: You can now order autographed copies from our own TV Guide Store.
They're offering this due to all the e-mails I've gotten from folks who really, really want signed copies of the book, even if they can't get to one of my book-signing events.
By the way, I'm not the type of author who just carelessly scrawls an illegible autograph inside a book jacket. Not only do I give good cursive handwriting, I do pretty doodles! (I'm a bit of a frustrated visual artist.)
Get your autographed copies of The Q Guide to Soap Operas right here!
Happy Holidays and Lotsa Love,
