Inside All My Children's Next Two Big Returns

One All My Children character is coming back from hell, another from heaven. On April 30, daytime megastar Ricky Paull Goldin — who just exited Guiding Light — will join AMC as the new Jake Martin. Viewers will learn that Jake, who left town in 2003 to join Doctors Without Borders in Africa, is currently held captive in Darfur, where he is being forced to treat wounded soldiers in one of the illegal armies. Two episodes later, Emmy-winner Cady McClain will rejoin the show as Dixie Martin — in angel form. Fans were furious when the beloved character was killed last year with a batch of poisoned pancakes.

Weirdly, the two returns are connected. AMC exec producer Julie Carruthers, who offered Goldin the gig when she heard he was quitting GL, tells me that Jake will be rescued by Aidan and brought back to America against his will. "Jake comes back emotionally scarred and with a very big secret," Carruthers notes. "He does not want to see his family. He wants to get back to the land he's grown to love."

Though Dixie's primary purpose is to unite her ex-husband Tad with their long-missing daughter, she will be instrumental in helping Jake decide to stay in Pine Valley. "The audience felt gypped with the way Dixie went out," Carruthers admits. "There's a lot of unfinished business with the character — a lot of work she must do before her spirit can be free." — Michael Logan

The All My Children return I'm excited about is Greg Nelson at the end of May!

He spells his name with two "l"s?

Anyhoo, any word on Aidan being killed in Darfur? That'd make my day. I hope Greenlee and this new Jake have chemistry, she needs a good leading man to play off of. I like her and Zach together but I don't think the Kendall/Zach fans would let that happen and word is that Thorsten Kaye might be leaving anyway.

Not a fan of Dixie, but I don't think most of the Dixie/Tad fans will be happy with Cady back for a few scenes with Adam and Jake. Most of them want to see Dixie with Tad and their daughter, Kate. Feel bad for the loyal Dixie/Tad fans. This ghost storyline is not what this couple's fans wanted to see.

And it stinks of stunt casting to earn a few ratings points.

As a longtime Dixie/Tad fan I can truthfully say I don't plan on watching Dixie's ghost scenes. I could care less if she comes back as a ghost...its not what I want to see. I still feel stabbed in the back with that lame poisoned pancake story, which should have killed off Babe instead! I can't stomach Tad with Krystal, so I have opted out of my former fave soap.

AMC fans felt "gypped" with the way Dixie went out?

Well, yes, if "gypped" means "enraged", then they felt gypped.

Let's hope the rumors about Beth Ehlers going to AMC come true.

I'm so happy that Cady McClain is returning as Dixie!...I hate that AMC
'killed' her character off (a very stupid move) but I'll take what I can get at this point....Does anyone know if she is coming back as a series regular or if it's just for a few episodes?

I am glad that yet another character is being reintroduced to the storyline, but I have one question. With Aidan going to save Jake what, is supposedly happening with Jamie? Or has everyone forgotten he went to Africa to work with his uncle?

I have a whole message board of Dixie-hater friends who BY NO MEANS fall into the category of feeling "furious" when Dixie was finally put out of our misery. We have returned an im-+age of Kendall bitch-slapping Dixie on a constant loop until she is gone for good this time! We will tolerate a ghost-storyline to reunite Kate and Tad, but she'd better not come back for good! I'll be making banana pancakes in the shape of crucifixes for the day she returns!

By the way, wasn't Colby a toddler when Jake left (remember he thought Colby was his)? Won't he be surprised when he sees that she's now a fully-grown adult!

As for what happened to Jamie, I hear when Jake was taken captive, Jamie escaped in a talking car! ;)
