All My Children Names Chuck Pratt Headwriter
All My Children courtesy ABC
This just in from ABC:
Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group announced today that Emmy Award-winning writer Charles Pratt, Jr. will serve as headwriter and consulting producer for All My Children. Mr. Pratt will begin on June 23, 2008.
"Charles Pratt, Jr. is a master storyteller. His talents in writing today’s biggest primetime hits in conjunction with his vast experience with daytime dramas will undoubtedly elevate All My Children stories in new and exciting directions," says Mr. Frons.
"I am incredibly excited to welcome Chuck as headwriter of All My Children. I look forward to his contemporary storytelling sensibility, his warmth and sense of humor enriching the entire canvas of Pine Valley," says executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers.
Mr. Pratt served as co-headwriter of General Hospital from 2002-2006. His additional TV credits include Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty, in addition to Melrose Place, Titans, Manchester Prep, Sunset Beach, Pacific Palisades, Models, Inc., Life Goes On, Gabriel’s Fire and Santa Barbara.

What new and scary directions will the show take now? I shudder to think.
Please, Mr. Pratt, (a) keep with continuity, i.e., not instant flips in personalities and relationships; b) Bring back those core families, i.e., the Martins, Hubbards, Courtlandts (wheres Peter?), and legacy characters (Brooke?) and please do not follow your former writing partner's example and develop a mafia in Pine Valley.

Good grief. I hope this helps. They are so at the bottom of the totem pole and are missing every potential for great stories. Example: They so dropped the ball on Jonathan and Lily.

I was so hopeful with the last change in headwriters, and what did we get: Ryan with amnesia, Lily vanishes, and Erica becomes Martha Stewart (how lame was that?). Just as we finally loved Ambyr Childers as Colby, they recast her for no good reason (the new actress looks no older than Ambyr).
Please, please, steady the course. Return our show to the show we loved because of it's cutting-edge storytelling with compelling characters, and the heartwarming humor that AMC has always been known for. I have tried other soaps over the years, but AMC has always kept my attention because of the humor, that most other shows sadly lack.
I can barely stand to watch it lately, but I am hanging in there, once again, as ABC tries to find the right writer for this legendary, long-standing daytime comedy-drama.

I can't say one way or another if this is good or bad news. I do remember Pratt being a writer for Santa Barbara. In either case, daytime still seems to be rotating the same writers over and over again but they are just landing on different shows. What really is needed is fresh blood altogether with new ideas, not just the same stories being re-made with different characters.

Hm. Well, I definitely have not enjoyed the past two years of GH compared to those that preceded them. So maybe he was part of the reason I liked the show back in the day.
With AMC, I think the show needs to back burn Erica, Kendell, and Ryan (and their respective loves) and let someone else be front and center. Ryan seems fickle, and how much more can be done with Erica and Kendell?

In my opinion, it was taking HW's James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten a little too long to get this show going again but it seems like they were on their way. I guess Brian wasn't having it.
They made it just under a year since Megan McTavish got the hook in May 2007 and they started in July. I will say this about their work - their year there was better than the last two or so before they started so thank you to them. Thanks for bringing Greg back for the wedding too. That was great.
I don't know if Chuck Pratt is it for this show but time will tell. He has a solid resume but will this be one of those cases where it's the wrong writer at a show? Will his type of stories work on a show like our beloved All My Children? Should be interesting kids.
I say - Resolve this Ryan crap, Greenlee/Aidan crap, keep it going with Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard, give Mr. Goldin and Beth Ehlers great story (thanks to whoever said nope to making her Liza. Only Marcy Walker for that one. Sorry.) and get Erica Kane Martin Brent Cudahey Chandler Roy Roy Montgomery Montgomery Chandler Marick Marick Montgomery (I can rattle it off in 5 seconds) the hell out of jail. Use Joe, Ruth, Palmer, and Myrtle if/when possible.
And hear this young man - do whatever, The Last Living Master, Agnes Nixon tells you to do as she still consults on this show for those who didn't know at 80 years old. Fabulous!

Let's hope Mr. Pratt continues with the good storylines we've been experiencing lately. Always remember the characters and where they've been and please do not rewrite history.

Can someone explain to me why AMC changes headwriters every six months, while Guza is allowed to stay at GH, slowly erasing every trace of what made that show great?
And Mr. Pratt, here is my free advice to you. Bring. Back. Dixie.

Thank you!! Somebody needs to come and fix this mess whoever has made. First order of business. Please kill Greenlee, Ryan, Annie, Aidan, and Kendall (preferably all at the same time) I don't know who is running this show now, but obviously only have time for Kendall, Ryan, and Greenlee and I don't know any fans of the show who enjoy seeing them everyday. The only thing that saves this crap is DVR, Angie, Jesse, Frankie, and Tad. Find a way to bring back Dixie and I might forgive them for ruining the entire Santos clan. Killing Julia..how weak and pathetic. AUUGHH! Just make Angie and Jesse the new Joe and Ruth, the core go to family and example of what a marriage should be and still be intersting characters and then cast me as the new love interest for Frankie and all will be forgiven!!

Let get Franklin (ha,ha) together with ?Carmen once she gets out of jail. Please do not pair Frankie with Coby.( Not a good choice). They would make a sexy couple. Frankie needs someone in his life to help him to love.
Carmen can go and work with Erica and the station and be a model of some sort.

Give poor Alishia Minshew a break. The girl has been on every single episode for over a year. Geez!
And please put Ryan and Kendall together and nu-Jake and Greenlee together. Send Thorsten to OLTL to reunite with Marty. Make Annie evil and have her kill Aidan and then kill off Annie (or send her away to the nuthouse). Bring back Amanda and pair her with Frankie. Kill nu-Babe....
I think that's it. Yeah, so just do all that and I'll be happy.

Mr.Pratt was a great writer when he was heading the team at Santa Barbara (still my favorite alltime soap).I don't get to watch AMC often but have been disappointed when I do watch. OLTL has improved alot since it's change in the headwriter, maybe it will work for AMC.

God, no mafia crap, please.
The main thing this show needs is more interesting women. There are about 80 interchangeable, bland 20-somethings who are all very pretty, almost identical, not very talented actresses and working in vague jobs at Fusion. Ugh. Greenlee and Kendall are great where they are. Babe is good but IMHO would benefit from another job (Erica's TV show, maybe?). Annie could not be more boring if she just made oatmeal every single episode. And there are a couple more whose names I can't even keep straight. There are many interesting male characters, but nobody to pair them with, and the recent, useless death of Julia just deprived the show of a fine actress and a character with a rich backstory. Bring in more women (heritage characters? Family links?) and give them interesting roles to play -- reporters, detectives, etc., instead of more girls manufacturing makeup. That will make for spicy romances and better, more varied storytelling.
And hey, if they could bring back Laurence Lau as Greg, I'd be thrilled. He's looking great, and maybe after 25 years, we are finally ready to see him with somebody besides Jenny!
