Budig's Back on AMC! Plus, an Angie/Jesse Reunion?!

Mrs. Bachelor Bob is back in the Fusion business. Rebecca Budig will reclaim the role of All My Children's Greenlee starting January 16. (What do you think about it? Vote here.) Also, Daytime Emmy winners Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams are returning as Angie and Jesse Hubbard on Jan. 18 and 25, respectively — this despite the fact that Jesse famously died in his wife's arms a bazillion years ago and has since made several ethereal visits as a ghost.

"We are giving the fans what they’ve been asking for — Rebecca returns as Greenlee and a beloved super-couple have a second chance," says ABC Daytime boss Brian Scott Frons. "Fans can look forward to Greenlee’s storyline developing around her business, her friendships and her love life. Angie and Jesse made an eternal imprint on... viewers, and many fans will not believe he's alive." Seriously — his ghost even gave Pine Valley that "magic box" one Christmas!

When Budig returns to the role she created, Greens is suddenly stricken down by a mysterious illness. That brings Angie back to Pine Valley Hospital to consult on Greenlee's case as well as that of a "secret patient." It all leads to what ABC calls "the most shocking reunion of all time: after 20 years, Angie will reunite with Jesse."

What's your take? Do you welcome Budig with open arms, or was Sabine Singh sufficing as the recast? And just how do you think they will bring back Jesse?! — Matt Webb Mitovich

First off, thanks for keeping us updated, Matt! Second, it's going to take more than this to get me to watch AMC again! The stunt they pulled with Dixie was the last straw and nothing short of bringing back Cady McClain will suffice. But if they can bring back Jesse, there's hope for poisoned Dixie, right?

I am over the moon happy that Budig is coming back to AMC :^O. The current Greenlee isn't as convincing to me as Budig. Especially during those emotional scenes.

Angie and Jesse were before my time, so I don't know if I am happy about this new change. I am never a big fan of bring back characters from the death when it is a common knowledge they died ?<img border=">. It think this will be hard on viewers since there have been episodes where Jesse has been in heaven. I am for bringing back Gillian :-x

What do the viewers think about Adian & Greenlee relationship? Ava, JR, and Jonathan love triangle?

AMC is reaching. I really hate it - this used to be such a terrific show.

Definitely right. All My Children IS reaching. Can't they just bring Darnell back as Jacob, the role he played on The City? That makes more sense.

C'mon. Jesse dying in Angie's arms was one of the most powerful scenes in daytime history. Let's not mess with history.

But then again, this is the same show that brought a fetus back to life!

Damn you for not hiring Kay Alden.

I am ecstatic that Angie and Jessie are coming back. However, re-recasting Greenlee with Budig, not so happy. Sabine has made Greenlee her own character, and she did a wonderful job. I cannot imagine the original Greenlee in a relationship with Aiden.

Also, once again, Frons treated one of his actors horribly. The invited Sabine to SSW, then withdrew the invite, and only gave her 1 week notice when they fired her. I am about done with AMC and "Mr"? Frons.

I am excited Budig is back! I never liked the recast because she just made Greenlee weak and whiney. Budig's Greens was strong and independent.

Love Jessie and Angie too. I was only a little kid in grade school at that time, but I watched the show with my mom. The glory days of AMC.

Sabine was doing a great job as Greenlee and there was no need for this present change of events. Sabine is still growing a large fan base and her pairing as greenlee with aidan was bringing in a lot of buzz. Just visit youtube and you can see all the new daily posts and number of visits for ailee - the couple that is portrayed by SS/AT. The coupling is/was in fact bringing in new and old viewers. The way ABC handled this situation is simply outrageous and awful. If AMC was hoping to have fans return by pulling stunts such as this -they are wrong. Fans prefer honesty and respect. And this situation lacks both. I can confidently say I'll no longer be watching AMC after 1.15.07

I really like the new Greenlee, and resent she was fired for RB. RB left the role and I recall was asked before the new actress took it to come back, and she wasn't interested.
Now that another actress is doing a good job in the role and clearly has worked hard, she's dump.

I don't like how callously she's being treated, and any interest I had in RB and AMC has been seriously damaged.

Sabine Singh has been a ray of sunshine on AMC. In the few short months Sabine has been on the show she has turned me into a Greenlee fan for the first time ever. She has also become my favorite performer and her pairing with Aiden Turner has created daytime's best couple.

I haven't been waiting with bated breath for Rebecca Budig's return and wish she wasn't. As a matter of fact I never gave it a thought. Brian Frons didn't do me any favors by bringing her back and it certainly isn't what this fan wants.

I haven't watched AMC for a while now, although I did watch during the Greenlee/Leo era. But my first thought reading the blog title was, "Isn't Jesse dead?!?"

But the part that really made me laugh was: It all leads to what ABC calls "the most shocking reunion of all time: after 20 years, Angie will reunite with Jesse." Only shocking for those who haven't seen the title of this blog, or been otherwise spoiled by some unavoidable reference to it. I remember when Lujack died on Guiding Light, and Tod died on Days of our Lives, and how shocking those deaths were to me. I'm kind of glad that I don't watch soaps any more, because I would have to avoid the internet to stay unspoiled.

Sabine did the best she could with the writing and direction she was given. Rebecca's Greenlee was very different, but so was the writing for the character during her time. Wish Sabine the best and welcome Rebecca back. Time will tell if the writing for the character will improve. Even Rebecca can't carry the character if the writing isn't there.

Frons has screwed up the show so badly. He doesn't treat the actors very well. Cady and now Sabine show how he reguards actors. The show had gone down hill under his control. Switching head writers hasn't changed the show much. Frons likes to direct the flow of the show. As long as he is in charge the show is going to continue to drop. Frons only wants to please himself. He could care less about the feelings of his viewers or the history of the show.

Nice to have Debby and Darnell back. Problem is that when characters have come back they are written so poorly it ruins the return. ABC/Disney needs to wake up and get rid of Frons.

I do feel badly for Sabine, and I'm glad that she developed a following, but AMC isn't doing things differently than any other soap when it comes to recasts. I think that the Cady situation is different because she was a beloved character brought back to be played by the same beloved actress, and then written off in an absurd plot, in a throw away scene, and it didn't help the storyline. It was an insulting end to a poorly written comeback.

Right now, the soaps are concerned about the Writer's strike, and I do believe that is the result of some of these changes. Bring back more beloved characters/actors who aren't going to be getting much other work now, because primetime has shut down. Then hope people are so happy with the familiar faces that they don't notice that the writing isn't the same. Sarah Brown returning to GH as a new character instead of Carly is another possible example of this.

I hope that bringing Rebecca back as Greenlee will bring back more interaction with the character and her "family" that has been missing since Sabine joined the show (which I see to be a fault of the writing of her character since her return). I loved Angie and Jesse when I was a teen, and think they are both great actors, so I'm willing to see where they take us with that, but I could go either way.

I'm holding out hope that maybe the writer's strike will open some opportunities to bring fans some of what they have been asking for...reconnecting with the characters already on the canvas that are being misused/not used. GH could definitely use more of the ignored family members in town, and AMC could use a story or two that doesn't surround a baby that we aren't going to see for a year before it turns a teenager, anyway.
