AMC's Big Returns Get Big Play on SOAPnet
Rebecca Budig by Steve Fenn/ABC
SOAPnet on Friday announced a slate of programming pegged to the three big returns coming up on ABC's All My Children.
For starters, AMC: Back in Pine Valley: Greenlee, Angie and Jesse — a half-hour (and colon-heavy) special featuring fresh interviews, classic clips and a behind-the-scenes look at the first days back on set for Rebecca Budig, Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams — debuts Saturday, January 12, at 2 pm/ET. That leads into Why We Love Greenlee!, a petite marathon of three Budig-centric AMC episodes. (Sabine, I am guessing/hoping, will use that opportunity to go catch a movie.)
On Sunday the 13th, starting at 2 pm, AMC: Angie & Jesse are Back! offers a trio of classic Hubbard hours, followed by an encore of the Back in Pine Valley special. — Matt Webb Mitovich

Frons and ABC are depending on Rebecca to bring back viewers I guess so they are showing her Greenlee on Soapnet as as a taste. Problem is for many viewers the way TIIC handled Sabine's firing and Rebecca's return left a bitter taste. Not Rebecca's fault for TIIC's being a bunch of jerks. Love Rebecca. Sabine is talented so she will move on to something else hopefully. Can someone just serve Frons some peanut butter banana pancakes so the rest of can move on?

Ok, I admit I stopped watching AMC several months ago after years of watching every single day. Frankly, I probably should have stopped sooner and saved myself a LOT of time. But anyway, I don't care how good or bad Sabine was as Greenlee... she does NOT deserve this treatment. The current promos touting the return of the "real" Greenlee are just mean. It's awful! What a slap in the face to an actress who tried her best to fill in for a well-loved actor. Good luck to Sabine. May you find some greener (ha, ha) pastures, which I'd imagine can't be very hard given the current state of AMC.
Wow, I'm getting bitter in my old age...

Count me among those who are NOT impressed by AMC's latest 'stunt.' And ABC's advertising campaign about the return of the 'real' Greenlee is the tackiest thing I have ever seen! While I WILL admit that Rebecca Budig WAS interesting to watch when Greenlee's love interest was Leo DuPres, I thought that Greenlee lost most of her snap, crackle and pop when Josh Duhmel left the show.
As for the return of the Hubbards - I can only remind everyone that, when ABC made a big deal about the returns of Robert, Anna, Holly, Laura, Scott and Rick Webber on General Hospital - ALL of those veteran characters returned to utterly STUPID stories which were NOT only painful to watch - but the stories destroyed the integrity of the characters as well! There is NO way that I believe that the Soap Assassins will be able to do justice to the return of the Hubbards! Plus, of course, there is the OBVIOUS problem that Jesse not only supposedly died, but AMC used Jesse as a 'ghost' who helped the character of 'Gillian Lavery' pass over to the 'other side' during ABC's Summer of the Bloody Brides!
Now - WHERE have I seen a bunch of stories about dead people who kept coming back to life? Oh - yeah - I seem to remember now - it is ALL coming back to me! It was on PORT CHARLES!!! Last time I looked, nearly the whole cotton-picking town of Port Charles was populated by dead people who kept coming back as 'vampires' and 'angels.' So - WHICH will Jesse be, I wonder - a 'vampire' or a 'vampire-slaying angel?'
You know, not so long ago, when the Soap Assassins took over the job of writing for All My children, TIIC made public statements in the soap press about this being the FIRST time that the Soap Assassins had taken over a soap which did NOT need 'major surgery.' However, when The Soap Assassins took over All My Children - AMC had a rating of 2.2 - exactly the SAME rating which Port Charles had when the Soap Assassins took over at PC!
I can NOT help but notice that All My Children is now DOWN to 1.9 and fighting it out with Days, Guiding Light and One Life to Live for LAST place in the ratings.
According to the statistics which I have collected, a year ago this week, AMC had a rating of 2.3. And, during this same time period in 2005, AMC had a rating of 2.4.
Since each rating point represents 1,128,000 viewers, that means that in
2005 -- AMC had 2,707,200 viewers
2006 -- AMC had 2,594,400 viewers left
2007 -- AMC had 2,481,600 viewers left when The Soap Assassins took over
2007 -- AMC has 2,143,200 viewers left after just a few months under the thumb of the Soap Assassins.
That is a total loss of 564,000 viewers which AMC has lost since 2005! HOWEVER, 338,400 viewers have been lost JUST since The Soap Assassins took over AMC's 'writing' duties!
There is NO way that the return of ANY of these veteran performers will be enough to bring back AMC's lost viewers -- BECAUSE the MAJORITY of viewers who jumped ship have abandoned AMC just since The Soap Assassins took over! So long as the veteran performers are returning to story concepts which remain as devoid of creativity and discernible direction as AMC's most recent attempts at story-telling have been - then there is NO way that the return of ANY veteran performer will be able to rescue AMC from the ratings pit which AMC was SHOVED into by The Soap Assassins!
Sincerely, Estrelita

Matt Do you think it necessary to make a jab at Sabine such as the one in your article? She should just go catch a movie, hahaha? I think a lot of people are going to be catching ANYTHING besides this ridiculous retread into the past. AMC can't even handle the talent it has now without screwing things up. Angie and Jesse will be destroyed by these writers, and Greenlee-- well, the REAL Greenlee is out as of 1/15/08. She won't exist anymore to a lot of us, nor will this show.
This situation is anything but funny and I wonder exactly what Frons and Company has done to get you in their pockets instead of responding to the outcry over how horribly Sabine was treated, how her fans have been ignored, and how viewers of AMC once again have to endure a bait and switch that was unnecessary in the first place and will NOT help this show.
And the only response to the outcry is a jab at Sabine? Way to avoid covering a story; just pretend like it isn't there, and make light of something that most everyone agrees is NOT funny.

I couldn't agree more with you on that, emster. I personally didn't care for Sabine as Greenlee but this is just inconsiderate and tasteless in the way they are incidentally trashing her by propping up Rebecca. Just tasteless.
What sort of job did they promise to her hubby to get her to come back? - Mrs.MikeyCera
A starring role in a 2-hour backdoor pilot remake of "Baywatch Nights" maybe.

Rebecca will not bring the ratings back as Frons and company are hoping, Sabine is still on the show till 15th. Rebecca is a b actress, plus she was never that good of actress if you call screaming and wining and it's all about ME.
Matt Stop pimping AMC and Frons & Company.

I couldn't stand her when she was first on, and I certainly won't start watching now because of the way they treated Sabine.
Complete b.s., she couldn't get anything in the 2 years she was gone, so let's let Sabine get fired. Whatever. Greenlee as a character sucks, RB as a actress sucks.
Good luck to you Sabine.
What return do I care about? Sarah Brown's return to GH.

Thank you Thank you Thank you SO MUCH AMC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for bringing back the real Greenlee. The best little actress that ever graced AMC! THANK YOU! Yeah Greenlee!
Now, all you need to do is to get rid of Kendall! Kendall sounds like a mad dog when she talks. She uses the same irritating voice and screems when she talks. Not pleasant to listen to or to look at.

Oh My Goodness! Estrelita... Are you for real?? Who exactly do you work for? Who gave you all the statistics? I've never seen anything like this - please get a life... better yet - stop watching All My Children!
I love my favorite soap "ALL MY CHILDREN" of many, many years. I have stuck with them through thick and thin ~ through sickness and health. True love! Absolutely love AMC! ...some people need to be reminded that this is a soap opera - all fiction - no truth just fun and entertainment. They can bring back the dead... they can do anything they want -one simple explanation and "POOF" it's done!.
I love Rebecca Budig - she is a great actress and created the Greenlee character with her beautiful smile and sweet evilness. Love it that she's back playing the role.
LONG live the soap "ALL MY CHILDREN"! YES!

Latinsmileyface, the info Estrelita put in her post are the ratings, its not super secret inside info. You can get it off the web in about 30 seconds flat.
And as far as ABC goes, the "Real Greenlee" ad campaign was perhaps the most tasteless, tacky, rude, clueless, off putting thing I have ever seen, and as a viewer of ABC Daytime, that is saying one heck of a lot.

Unfortunately, ABC is suffering from timewarp: it is not 1982, we are not all home watching Love In the Afternoon from Ryan's Hope straight through GH. Most daytime soap watchers do not remember or care about Jesse and Angie, Greg and Jenny, Cliff and Nina, or anyone else ABC would love to throw back ("Throwback"?) to AMC. This was my sister in 1982: today she is a Red Hat Lady who dotes on her toddler grandkids and plays golf all day -she hasn't watched a soap in years. ABC needs a reality check: Greenlee can't be Liza, Kendall can't be Erica, Erica can't be Phoebe (which has been particularly painful to watch), and JR can't be the new Tad the Cad. It was great, it was cool, it was awesome....but now it's over. Move on.
