Another X-Files Movie?
Mulder and Scully could be reunited back on the big screen sooner than we imagined. David Duchovny dropped a bombshell at the end of a Saturday afternoon TCA session promoting his raunchy new Showtime series Californication (which premieres August 13 alongside the third-season launch of Weeds). Our favorite "spooky" FBI agent says he's expecting to get a script next week for a movie sequel to 1998's The X-Files blockbuster. Chris Carter, who'll also direct, wrote the script with Frank Spotnitz, and Duchovny says Gillian Anderson is also on board for production to start, possibly in the fall. No details beyond that at this point, but it's exciting news for those of us who've long been convinced there's more truth out there to be discovered.

This rumor comes around almost every year, and it's usually something David D. or Chris Carter says, and then nothing happens. Like Mulder, I want to believe, but I'm not going to celebrate until I hear filming has actually begun.

I'm with you, TVisGood. These announcements do seem to coincide suspiciously with new projects. I can only hope that, if a script is indeed near completion, it is worthy of the earlier seasons rather than the finale (or the last two to three seasons, by and large). I want character interaction and development, dang it!

With all due respect, is there really an audience out there for this after all this time? I was a big fan of the show in the Mulder/Scully days, but didn't watch much the last couple of seasons. The show has been off the air for 5 years, and by the time they put out a movie (if it happens), it will be about 7 years. I don't remember how it ended, and while I enjoyed the movie (NINE years ago), I don't remember how that ended either.
Besides, everyone knows the trendy thing to do these days is to turn everything into a Broadway musical. Now that, I might pay to see!

This is great news. I own the old movie, I still watch repeats of The X-Files which is one of my all time favorites. I hope it happens this time.

I would absolutely see X-Files! The Musical.
I'd be first in line for the movie just because it's X-Files, but I'd pay to see Gillian Anderson in anything. Good for her for prioritizing her life well for the sake of her kids these last several years, but this woman needs to get back to work! At the height of the show, I always said that she was the best dramatic and comedic actress on television at the time. She was amazing and Scully's welcome back any time, as far as I'm concerned.

If there will be a new X-files movie to come out i will watch it as much as i can while it is in the theater and i will cry tears of excitement - i'm half crying now just thinking about it!(The only hope I have is that it will be with Mulder and Scully from their good years (5th/6th season) I was too young to watch it when it was on air but about 3 or 4 years ago I saw some re-runs on TV and immediately fell in love with the show. Since then, i have bought all the seasons and the movie and still watch them over and over again. I'm very disappointed that I didn't watch it when it was on air and I got depressed when i saw the movie that I didn't see it on the big screen so PLEASE - GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE! BRING BACK THE X-FILES ITS NEVER TOO LATE! SCULLY IS MY HERO!
