What's the Buzz? Seth Rogen Is the Green Hornet!

It's official: After months of murmurings, Seth Rogen is set to star as the Green Hornet in the upcoming, eponymous film.

Per EW, Rogen will play the story's hero, Britt Reid, a playboy with time and money on his hands. He inherits his dad's newspaper and starts fighting crime at night with his buddy Kato. Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg are writing and producing the film.

The Knocked Up star may seem like an unlikely choice to play a studly, winged crusader in a deal that could end in a stinging disaster. Yet, similarly surprising choices have worked out to be inspired ones in other such flicks, like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and even Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. How do you think the Hornet casting will fly? You have time to mull it over; The movie opens in June 2010. — Anna Dimond

I am sorry, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Seth Rogan a Superhero? Guess we will see, unless someone comes to their senses and kills the deal.

Huh. We'll see, maybe he could pull it off. I wonder who's going to play Kato. He was always more interesting anyway. But that could be because it was Bruce Lee.

...winged crusader???/

He must hide them under his overcoat.
Even though it's obviously going to be a comedy,(it can't help BUT be a joke) let's hope the writers know a little bit more about the original Green Hornet!
Any suggestions for the new Black Beauty? How about a certain Impala...
It sure has one trunk Chock full of crime fighting goodies!!;)

Well, let's see....if Seth Rogen is the Green Hornet, then I think Sammo Hung should play Kato.

Sammo Law

That's equally as ridiculous.

This is just beyond stupid. I like Seth Rogen, but come on.

I had hoped this rumor would turn out like the Jack-Black-as-Green-Lantern rumor a few years ago -- i.e., never happen. (Green Lantern is now moving forward, but in a more serious version without Black.)

I would like to see a Green Hornet movie, but not a Seth Rogen Green Hornet movie.

You're making bad comparisons. The only surprises about Toby Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. was that their acting per se in their respective roles was so spot-on; there was never any doubt that these two were physically able to portray their superhero characters. In that vein, Seth Rogen couldn't pull off anyone other than Bouncing Boy (I see Charisma Carpenter as Triplicate Girl).

I suspect this movie might be positioning itself as a modern-day Batman in the mold of the 60's TV series: flamboyant and campy. Which could be fun...

And who'd have thought Michael Keaton would make a good Batman? He did, IMO. So I'm willing to give this a shot. I think it's much more important who is directing the flick.

Buffy Freak, I'll go so far as to say that Michael Keaton played a great Bruce Wayne, and that he was a better Batman than Adam West, but I have to draw the line there. His "shortcomings" as the actual Caped Crusader were comically obvious. Mind you, I loved the movie and its progeny, but an honest-to-goodness superhero flick, it was not. :)

I like Seth, but I just don't see it.
Sorry.

This is what I get for reading anything when I've only been awake for less than five minutes. I when I first read the title to the article on the main page, I thought it was talking about Joe Rogan; so yeah, it was a little exta odd to see Seth Rogan's picture in the article itself...

I really don't know about this one. Even as a comedy, this could be pushing it into the realm of just plain absurd.

Count me in as one who likes Seth Rogan, but just doesn't see him in the part.

The real fun is going to be seeing what Jonah Hill looks like as Kato! :)

I don't care how 'talented' Rogen is supposed to be but unless this turns out to be some kind of spoof it's probably the worst casting for this type of movie ever! Please tell me how Comic-Con fanboys will explain this one.

Well, maybe they are going for a reverse-Elektra vibe. After all, a smokin' hot Jen Garner didn't save that dud.
